loud exhaust

I just installed my 3inch downpipe and 3inch cat to my 3inch exhaust piping.The exhaust is very,very loud. before I used to be able to drive it quiet at slow rpm, but now it is loud at any speed. I live in Ca so cops get mad about exhaust. Does any body have a soloution to make my exhaust quieter without sacrificing performance.

1) seal up your exhaust leak
2) add a few resonators to the pipes. My Apexi N1 has 2 of them. They will quiet the exhaust down substantially.

What kind of cat, downpipe, and cat-back are you using?? I have a 3" turbo back and it's very very quiet......

I have 3inch mandrel bent piping,with a highflow magnaflow cat, and a 3inch megan racing muffler off ebay. I am positive that I don't have an exhaust leak. Do the resonators that you have rob you of any horsepower?

I have a straight 3" pipe from the turbo back. No cat. But I'm using a GReddy cat-back and it has a built-in resonator. Thats probably why mine is so much quieter. Also, GReddy mufflers were designed to muffle enough sound to be California DB legal. Thats another reason why mine is pretty quiet. When I had my 95 GS, I installed a high-flow cat and an eBay muffler and I got pulled over once a week for my exhaust being too loud. Yours is loud because of the nature of your components. If you want it quieter, then you will probably have to either change to a different muffler design, use one of two resonators, or more restrictive cat.

my car was extremly quiet unless I was at WOT.

You probably have a weird exhaust leak and you should get it checked by a exhaust shop... im sure they can reweld stuff and make sure there are no leaks for under 100$

Almost all mufflers for cars like ours are straight through design. Just some have characteristics that make them quieter than others. My buddy's straight-through Thermal R&D muffler is much louder than my straight-through GReddy. But you are right about the leak. Checking for exhaust leaks would be the first thing I would do.
