Ok first off i have a 91 eclipse gsx and im wanting to upgrade to a 3000GT VR-4. i found a 3000gt for my car plus around 2000. The 3000gt is a 94 6 speed and i really want one but the car has a few problems. The guy told me that its not starting right now and it has a blown turbo and a possible rod knock or lifter tick and i was wondering if it would be worth it to do the trade and try to fix the 3000gt thats the cheapest ive seen a 6 speed for.
And if there is a rod knock does that ruin the motor if you drive it. and what exactly is a lifter tick?
Help me please I dont know what to do right now all I know is I really want a 6 speed 3000gt VR-4 thank you.

if there is a rod knock does that ruin the motor if you drive it.
Rod knock is not good and you don't need to drive the car to cause serious problems to the engine, simply running it with rod knock is bad.
and what exactly is a lifter tick?
Lifter tick is not especially harmful, mostly annoying.

ok thats what i thought but how much would a rod knock be too fix do you think?

A 94 Mitsubishi 3000 vr4 is still a 20 year old vehicle. It's hard telling what other issues the vehicle has considering u cant hear it run or even TRY to drive it. Sounds like its been sitting for a while too, that's when even minimal rust can get out of hand quick. (ruin/lock-up brake calipers. eat brake lines, entire fuel system, etc). What about the transmission, clutch, frame, suspension and steering, drive-train components, rear power steering system, wheel hubs, all fluids, battery, starter, alternator, wiring etc. On top of all those unknowns, it sounds like you'll be lucky if you don't have to rebuild the motor right away, won't even be able to do a compression test, plus a new turbo. Depending on how bad the lifter tick is, it might not be a big problem, but a rod knocking is scary to me(but if you cant even hear it for yourself your buying blind). The seller would be lucky to get 1500 out of me for it, and would definetly not include trading a 91 GSX on top of it. At least you know all the issues with your car. In the end its your choice though. Good luck either way

ya thats true i was just gonna look at it soon and then i was gonna decide after that. my GSX isnt in the best condition but it runs good i would say for being that old the only things wrong with it that ik of are it has an oil leak, the idle is messed up and the e-brake isnt hooked up.

You're asking 3000GT questions on a DSM forum, go to Club 3/S if you want answers. If you ask me, going from a GSX to a 3000GT is a downgrade all day especially if the 3000GT isn't running.
