As the title says my goal for this car is to run 10's with the 50 trim while keeping the stock bottom end. I am going to try and do it on just boost. But I have a bottle waiting to go on the car and will put it on if need be to reach my goal. Once I reach that goal or the bottom end goes(whichever comes first) I am going to build the block and will add pictures from that to this thread also. I will be updating this thread as I do things to the car. Expect this thread to last a few months at least.

My ultimate goal for the car after I build the bottom end is to run low 10's on boost with a different turbo. Then I will add the bottle with a 75 shot and try to break 9's.

I will put some pics up tomorrow of its current state. I have had numerous chances to take it to the track, if I could leave it alone. I just keep taking something apart to make it better before I take it to the track.

Lemme tell ya, leave that thing alone take it to the track to do some "shake down" runs with it, your not gonna go out there to set records just to help tune it and find some bugs to fix, you will have bugs and its best to find them now before your done or close to done..

I race a 10.5 outlaw car for my dad, Im the driver and rear suspension guy, every year after our rebuilds and adding new stuff for the new season (this year we have to add 200# because a turbo car like ours won the points season) we go to our local 1/8 mile track do some 60' pulls till im happy with the launches and make sure its goin straight than if I feel safe enough Ill do some low boost runs 35psi LOL fix some leaks do some tuning cuss here and there tune some more than cuss some more till we get it right than we go home and fix everything again. It sucks but its better to fix it all now , than when you are ready for them big power 10sec passes you know you will be able to do it safley with out no problems or atleast minimal one's.

Some pictures as promised:

Removing unnecessary wires from the interior harness. This is how the car is sitting right now.

Just wait to see how big the pile gets when I do the engine harness. That won't be done anytime soon though, not until I have money to build the engine.

Great project. Amazing to hear how many people don't think a 50 trim can break into the 10's. This project makes me wish I would have gotten my SCM50/2G manifold setup to the track. I had it running fairly well around 25psi on E85, and I think it would have been in low 11's territory, and the car for the most part is still near full weight. I'll have to keep checking in on this and see how you end up doing. On a quick street tune, mine made 366AWHP on our local low reading Dyno Dynamics (translates to around 420hp DynoJet). That was on a quick street tune, AFR's everywhere, on around 24psi. If my dumbass could make that kind of power, I'm sure you with a proper tune and more boost could make a good bit more.

I just ended up going to a bigger setup now. Good luck with the project, I think you can do it.

I do notice the 50trim seems to stay pretty efficient at really high boost levels 25psi+ in comparison to 57trim and 60-1. Its lb/min seems limiting though. Im sure if people have run high 10s on 16g, it can definitely be done on a garrett 50trim wheel. Cant wait to see the progress

It makes absolutly no sence why ppl dont think this will not run in the 10's. It will run 10's and do it easy, Ive got a 16g in a full weight car @25psi running 11.98, Ive just got into tuning DSM's so I know with a little more time getting used to tuning it and with some more boost on 16g I WILL run mid 11's, and Im sure with a tad of NOZ I can get deep 11's

I don't know if it's been mentioned but will you be running water/meth injection to help keep the stock bottom together?

Look at all those wires LOL. Im sure he will run 10's on that 50 trim. Hes cut back on weight and good tuning will get him there too.

I just did some calculations based off a thread on dsmtalk with weights listed for stock parts, my car should be 26xx without me in it right now. It should be in the middle of the 2600 pound range give or take a few pounds for things not on the list and extra weight from things like the turbo. Stock it was 3080.

I would have never thought that a stock AWD car weights in at 3080# I was thinkin somewhere in the 34XX# range, I think im gonna go with the SBR-G60 and a bit of NOS to get me in the 10's bro, Im not willing to kill my car with a small turbo to do so its still pretty nice, How thin do the cylinder walls get when you start strokin them out? Im thinking about a 2.3L stroker but if it thins out the walls to much I wont, and I dont want to use block fill

Yours weighs in the 31xx range. Mine is 3080 because of the lack of wraparound wing and hings like that.

A 2.3L strokers cylinder walls are just fine. My friends evo IX made 647whp on 39psi with a 2.3L. It has more power now due to a bigger turbo. And it has over 30,000 miles on the engine. The car only had 36 miles on it when he took out the engine, it has only had race gas since then too.

WOW it still amazes me how much HP these engines can produce, Im assuming the EVO is now a drag car?

He must have some deep pockets to afford that $6 a gal race swill and he cant get more than 8mpg with that monster, Im gettin 12mpg with mine

Yeah, he has some money. He uses C16 which is $13.xx a gallon last I asked. It gets more than 8mpg though.

OUCH!!! is the car pretty tame on the streets?? how would I be able to get a few more MPG with my tune?? im on 93 swill now I want to keep it safe but if 12mpg with my tune will keep it safe than Im not to worried about it, my Malibu gets 4mpg and I drive it alot so 12 aint so bad to me

my 91 weighed 3040lbs bone stock full weight except for wheels(probably no difference) with automatic. I was kinda surprised as i expected around 3200lbs.
UGot8up- post a log like what was said and maybe we can help you out. Also what are you tuning with?

If you are getting 12 MPG in your DSM, you have a fuel trim problem or a very heavy right foot. I get 18 MPG in my Talon and it runs on Ethanol with Dual -8 lines and Dual Bosch 044 pumps.

A maxed out negative LTFT and STFT trims will identify the closed loop problem. Or it just may be that your Front O2 is dead.

As for Patrick, get the shakedown passes ASAP. I'm sure the car has gone on a huge diet after seeing that wiring mess out of there. Good Luck and keep me posted.

Will do Jeff. Yeah, I have a ton of weight out of the car. I am going to be making some tubular suspension pieces in my welding class soon too, hopefully I can start this week. I am going to put it back together this week and take it to the track on Sunday if weather permits.

I am going to try to find a scale to weigh it at also.
