motor knocking???

I have a good question... Today I just pulled a perfectly good front end out of my 98 talon tsi awd automatic. It ran fine, then I put the front clip on to my brothers 97 tsi awd automatic and hooked everything up and now its knocking like hell. Is there something I could have done or hooked up wrong? ALSO, is the wiring harness ANY different at all? I noticed the 98 appears to have an extra plug on the end of the harness after the injector pigtails. What would that censor be used for? BOTH cars have been sitting for about 2yrs. Thanks!!

Wow ... no oil flow for two years and you cranked it up? Bet that oil went to sludge and thick in the pan and it's not going to flow in any galley real good right now.

I would drain the oil pronto, put some dino 10w/30 in with new filter, then take the plugs out and squirt some oil in to lube up the cylinder walls, hand spin it around to get the walls wet before I would ever hit the key. It's going to knock for a while until the lifters gets re pressurized.

Well, I started the motor up in the 98 just to move it to the garage, and it ran fine with no knocking. That was right before I pulled it.
