Shoot me a Pm with your goals. We would love to build you a block and I can beat that 1800 price range.

What i think you should do first is take the engine apart and see what it is, unless you know its coming from con rod. Cause it could be something else like the lifter or the valve if you over rev it. Maybe its the piston slaping etc...

What i would do is check the block all the con rod bearing, main bearing, cylider bore etc. If i dont see any shaving or destroyed bearings i would rebuild the block, polish the crank and bore out the cylinders a bit (like .20 over.) Get new piston, rod, bearings, oil pump, and polish the crank. That will be around a grand, based on the brand. Also get some ARPs

But first make sure there is no major damage to the block.

Well I am currently in the middle of building a motor on my own and will have to admit its adding up. However I do prefer to go this route for knowledge learning and peace of mind that its getting done right, well hopefully.

More importantly you should ask yourself why the rod knock happened. Probably leaned out from more boost and detonated which is very hard on the bearings. Make sure you get a solid tune on the next engine before going pedal to the metal.

repair what you have in the car and continue with the build on the side. Start with compression check to see how you stand as far as the rest of the motor and then move on to status of the bearings/ con rods thereafter. That is my .02 cents. Goodluck.
