i Own a '98 GST-Eclipse

ok, so i will be buying FP Mitsubishi EVO III 16g Turbo, now they give me teh option to get it clipped and ported.

Should i do both or which one is the one i should get done? i have the money for both but will this benefit me on my setup and goals..

Goal #1: get the car to run amazing on daily driving during spring(no snow), summer weather and maybe fall(no snow). Will this turbo be a good daily for good street vehicle (fast street vehicle)

Goal #2: reach atleast 300whp easy without having to use dsm-link, using factory injectors, or 680cc with sometype of fuel managment.

Goal #3: This is going for road racing setup, which means i don't want too much lag time, but also want good mid-to-top end power. Will this tubo have a good spool time at around 3500-3700rpm?

Now to give you an idea of what i will be running.
-Planning on this turbo.
-A FP Exhaust Manifold-will this 16G bolt right into this Exhaust mani, or is it a different flange?
-running Walbro 255LHP, re-wiring fuel pump, factory Fuel Filter, with -6an line to stock rail, stock fuel injectors if possible.
-Planning on doing from 18-20-22 psi around there.
-FMIC(Universal 29"x6"x2.5") only becaise i dont want to mess with crash beam and i want to leave my stock fog lights on there. with a clean look right in the bumper space.
-Not sure what UICP to use, will be using a allrady made one from TB to stock SMIC location and then from there im not sure what yet, if you gusy any idea let me know. i do knwo what to use for IC to Turbo, most likely J pipe with couplers.
-Stock Transmission-Clutch.
-AFPR -6an
-And a Pioneer Premier Radio if it helps LOL.. :D
- A/F, Boost- Gauges.
Now my last Question: Shoudl i Port and Clip for this- setup? later in the future i will want 350+whp with DSM Link and all that but not for a long time.. maybe full life of 16G, ill upgrade to a more expensive or so turbo..

Any Replays are welcome pos and cons. let me know i am here to learn. Please Help With any information you have..

16g's are great for a street turbo..On the fp manifold, you might see a little Quicker spool..Most road race guys use a FPt28 for the quicker spool and they still preform very well up top..So either turbo will do just fine for your goals..If you want to get the very most out of your car no matter what turbo how stock or how modified you are..Dsmlink is a must..You can get very good results even with a stock as stock can be vehicle..If you plan on getting fuel managment and bigger injectors down the road..I'm gonna say it agian..Dsmlink..Bigger injectors will also require a 255, and AFPR..You miz well not wast the money of a fuel managment system when you can have it all with again, dsmlink..Its a little pricey, but well worth it..

The flange on the 16G is the same as the T25 flange? so it is not a T3/T4 flange correct? to where i would not need adapters to bolt up to the FP Exhaust Manifold?..

And yes i was thinking about the same thing, going with DSM-Link, as i will be able to manage everything with the system including fuel..

I have 255lph and AFPR on the way to install..

Yes the 16g is dsm flanged, or alot of people on the site would be kinda screwed..The fp manifold is cast for dsm, so it will bolt right up..I think they will even port it if you want them too..Read that thread if you want to learn more about the t28 or 16g..

ok cool, do you think i should port and clip the 16G, they give me th eoption for a little extra $, but im not sure if for this setup it will be good for me..

You are going to NEED bigger injectors if you plan to run that much boost. Also, if you get bigger injectors you will NEED something to manage them, dsmlink works great.

Also, if you are manual transmission you will NEED a stronger clutch, without one you will just be slipping all the time.
 
Id have them port it yes..You should be fine up to 22 psi without it being clipped..But you would have to ask jusmx141, at what point you would need it clipped..
If you're planning on running 30+psi, or if you're using the turbo at higher boost on a stroker you may want to get it clipped....otherwise, as said above, a 16G cannot possibly outflow a TD05H turbine (especially in an Evo III turbine housing) under normal circumstances.

I would get the housing ported- FP does great port work which aids in the wastegate performance of that housing drastically. Proper wastegate function is a necessity of both boost control and engine performance because once the wastegate is open the amount of air the turbine housing itself can flow doesn't really matter anymore.
 
This is exaclty why this guy kicks ass..I just threw 22 psi out there, and basically waited for you to get around to correcting me..Sorry for the misinformation..I knew you would chime in eventually..
 
It depends on your turbine housing choice as well as compressor spec. A friend of mine was running a TD05H 20G a while ago with an unclipped turbine at 25psi and that seemed to be about the limit of what the turbine could flow....but that was with a larger compressor, and he was using a ported standard 7cm turbine housing as well (not the better-flowing Evo III housing).

Clipping is never really a required mod- it's a great way for someone who is pushing a certain turbo to it's limit to squeak a few more lb/min out of a particular setup whenever the rest of their bolt-on setup is spot-on with no restrictions. Even with the 20G example I've shown above, that user would benefit more from a turbine upgrade than a clip- although at some point cost becomes a factor as well.

Doesn't it already come ready for bolt on to DSM flange?
for my understanding all i would really need is the "FP 16G Install Kit for 2G DSM". or will i need th ehousing for it to bolt on up to my FP Exhaust Manifold?

And no im not planning on going over 25psi not for a long time at least, i know i would need way more supporting mods for this. which im not planning on spending lots of money on..

Not sure what exactly you're asking here, but yes you do need an Evo III o2 housing so the outlet of the turbine housing will match up. It's about 1/2" bigger than the stock o2 housing inlet would be.

what happens if you spike 30psi on the evolll without it being clipped?
A spike isn't really something you shoot for....so the worst that would happen is you'd move no more air than if you were running 25psi- it would just be hotter.

Too small of a turbine wheel, too small of a turbine housing, and too small of a wastegate passage for the engine to breathe properly. Pretty much a compilation of the three.

your stock o2 housing and the evo lll housing will both fit your turbo, but the evo lll flows much better,
The stock o2 housing may bolt up, but it's far too small internally to work properly with an Evo III turbine housing.
Better exhaust flow = more power.
It also results in boost creep if you're not careful.
 
I know this thread is two years old at this point but I was hoping I could get a good answer or just a link to direct me to the right place. I have searched the forums and Google and no right there answer. My question is how would you connect a hallman MBC to the e316g? I had the MBC on my stock t25 and it looks like there is a tapped fitting for one of the lines for the MBC and on the new turbo there is not. Do I tap it or does it connect another way. Thanks
 
Thanks I just ordered the jpipe with the nipple on it ..everything should work just fine then right?
