Mitsubishi vs. MHI Evo III 16g

i have looked in a few places and havent found the answer so figured i'd get some good reponses from you all.


whats the difference between the mitsubishi evo3 16g and a MHI evo3 16g? specs etc. thanks alot. im going to be upgrading from 14b to evo3 16g and was trying to figure out if there were any differences in the 16g or if they were just different manufacturers.


if confusing sorry. im kinda lost, i had always thought there was only evo3 16g and the evo3 GT turbo's.

There exactly the same, MHI stands for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The Evo III GT is completely different.

is bolting this turbo on going to cause any problems with stock 2g o2 housing? i have a 2g ported exhaust manifold i plan on using when install the 16g. should i wait off a bit for a ported o2 housing also?

An MHI EVO III 16G and an EVO III 16G are the same, but the EVO III GT, EVO III small 16G, and EVO III big 16G are different, in flow rates, the standard EVO III 16G out flows the GT, SM., and BIG 16Gs.
No it will not cause any problems, as long as it has mitsu flanges which it does

thanks dustin, looking forward to upgrading off the 14b. might wait and see what i can do with the 14b. havent even been at the track yet with that on my car. damn military deployments. haha. but i know for sure i'll be able to break 300whp with the evoIII 16g. looking forward to it.

Close, but not even quite true. There are 3 variants of the 16g for DSM's. All of which are produced by Mitsubishi. These are:

Small 16g
Big 16g
Evo III 16g

Flow rates go from lowest to largest as you go down the list.

As for Evo III 16g's and knockoffs, this can be divided into three categories:

MHI Evo III 16g which is the standard Mitsubishi manufactured unit
Evo GT 16g which is sold by Turbochargers.com
Evo III GT 16g or whatever it may be called sold on ebay by companies like SSAutochrome and XSPower

These three turbos are supposed to be roughly the same, as the later two are clones of the first. It really is just a matter of quality and name with them.

As far as I know, no one makes a knockoff of the standard big and small 16g's. As for the choices with the Evo III 16g, no one ever complains about the MHI unit, reviews on the Evo GT from turbochargers.com are mixed (alot of heresay, be careful who's opinons you take on the unit), and no one will touch the SSAutocrap units with a 10 foot pole.

Where did you get that? I said the Evo GT and SSAutochrome units are knockoffs of the MHI unit. Sorry if that needed clarification.

Greg I believe this is why Derek thought you were saying the MHI is a knock off, its not that clear. Nice about going in depth on the models, and good to see you got it right that the E316G out flows the Big16G.

I didnt say anything about the 16G out flowing the Gt, I said it our flowed the big 16G. But to the best of my knowledge, the EVO III 16G out flows the knock offs, and the SM, and BIG 16Gs.

Looks like you did say it.
And what knowledge brought you to think that.
actual testing or just that you think should.
I can tell i did test both on the same car with same mods and the mhi evo316g does not out flow the GT 16g.
