I have a MHI evo 3 16g turbo that I bought brand new. I've driven maybe less than 5000 miles on it. 99% of the time it's never seen more than 15 psi of boost. I took my intake off yesterday to clean the filter, poked my fingers to check for play (there wasn't any) but then I noticed that the front (bigger) fins had small bends on them (towards the outside of the fin closest to the housing).

I'm wondering if anyone knows how this could have happened? All the fins going around (the ones I mentioned) have this. The bends are very tiny but I'm still worried.

Could this affect turbo performance?
How could this have happened?

I'm 99.9% sure that nothing got in the intake (like a rock or debris).

i was just googling some random stuff relevant to my post and I noticed someone said that a piece of silicone got sucked into their turbo.

I just remembered that I put some silicone on one of the intake nipples (the really small one that goes to the stock boost solenoid). I'm wondering if a piece of it got sucked in.

EDIT: I just went to check it, and the silicone is like a very light/stringy kind when it cures. Doesn't seem like something that could damage metal.

You would be suprised what can damage one. Hitting anything at 120,000 rpm is pretty harsh.
