Ok, i this car is only 4 weeks old, and I am positive I bought a piece of crap. I have replaced the transfer case already now this. It started when my journal bearings in my turbo started making noise. After sending it out for a rebuild, I was told that a piece of aluminum had got wedged in the oiling holes locking it up. So I drained my oil and strained it and found small metalic flakes that are non magnetic. Then i cut my oil filter open and found that the paper element was full of very small non magnetic metal flakes, it appears to be aluminum. Under the valve cover, i also found the same flakes in any oil puddled up. I did research this and think it may be my oil pump. I was told that my motor has 12k miles on it and it is not making any noise. Also my oil pressure is fine, according to the factory gauge. LOL. I am taking my motor out this week and going to check in the oil pan and oil pump. If it is my oil pump what kind should i buy? If it is not my oil pump any ideas on what else it could be? Any help/and or advise would be appreciated.....

The block is not bored out any, and the rods have std. bearings as well as the crank. I never knew you couldn't turn the crank
It's not that you can't turn the crank down; it's more-of a question of durability.

It's my understanding that Mitsu hardens the cranks after they have been cast and cut. When you cut .010" or whatever off the crank journals, you may be cutting into un-hardened metal which may wear quickly.

I know I rebuilt that turbo for you in the midst of all this, but if you've run the car with the rebuilt turbo installed on it I may need to tear it down again and give it a good cleaning and a new set of journal bearings for you. I've seen turbos that were getting metal in the oil feed destroy themselves in as little as 20 miles. I'm not trying to upsell you on anything- I wouldn't charge much to do the service....what I'm saying is if you put a turbo that is full of metal on a fresh engine, it's probably going to suffer a catastrophic failure within the first 100 miles.

No i havent got to install the turbo.....The small piece of aluminum that locked up the bearing had me worried. I cut the oil filter open and knew there was a HUGE problem. Turns out it was the balance shaft bearing and not the oil pump like my original thought. I plan on giving everything a REALLY good cleaning. MY LUCK SUCKS>>>>>:banghead:

Man i feel ya, only had my dsm for about 3 hrs, blew up on the way home... spun three brearings. I bought a piece and got screwed. I got a new motor in it and im picking it up tomorrow. Let me know if u need a guy to help u out, hes in monroe MI

I finally got my engine out and apart today. And when i pulled the oil pan....suprise suprise....lots of metal. Apparently the guy i got it from did rebuild the engine 12k miles ago. Everything looked good, all the gaskets were new, new timing components. Although he didn't remove the balance shafts, and he DIDN"T REPLACE THE BALANCE SHAFT BEARINGS:cry: The rest is history. I am rebuilding the entire thing. The pistons are scored up pretty bad, and the bearings are TOASTED. The crank and rods have to be turned. Any one have a suggestion on pistons? Any good deals going on anywhere?

Hey man,
If you need anything at all give me a shout!!!!(SMOKE on WVmotorsports) I have quite a few parts and hate to see anyone get the short end of the stick on a dsm.

I wonder why the balance shafts were not just eliminated?? This sucks!!!:banghead: Please don't hesitate to get ahold of me you don't live that far away:thumb:

Thanks smoke. I've seen your build pics on wvmotorsports the other day. Looks good. I was trying to get the car ready to take to clay city on Nov 8 but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I'm taking the everything to th machine shop today. I've got to find some decent pistons. I would like to buy Weisco but money is a issue.

jus had the same prob bought the car put 600 mi on it and started getting a really loud knock ended up i spun a couple rod and main bearings....... i pulled the motor bought i rebuild kit off ebay for $300 a new crank for just under $200 and a balance shaft eliminataion kit for $30. the rebuild kit came with everything you could possible need from a reputible seller...... i broke down the motor and sent it out to my local maching shop which did my elimination kit my pistion planed my block and did a vavle job for just under $800. with the way your discribing it sound exactly the same as i had almost to the "T".... this way was way better than $4500 for a jasper reman and my motor was toast.
