Megan Racing: Updated AWD Downpipe and Catback! (3in.) Opinions?

Eclipsegsx1736, I think it's great that MR is trying so hard to make a great product. But for the people that bought the 2g dp that doesn't fit correctly, is MR offering anything to them like an exhange? Would emailing them be the best option? Thanks.

Folks this is what we call R&D. Research and Development. It does take some time.

We are NOT scratching the whole project.. Here is EXACTLY what we are doing.. All we did is very slightly reduce the beginning size . The finished products will be here within 2-4 weeks for installation, and immediately after the fitment is confirmed, production will start.. We're just trying to do the best job we can and still offer it cheap, and eliminate the "You get what you pay for" factor.

Out of curiosity what is your relationship with Megan Racing at this point? At the onset of this thread your involvement was limited to lettign M-R test fitment of specific parts on your car, but now it seems (from your own words) you are wholly involved in the development, production and fitment of M-R products  :dsm:

Exactly what I was about to ask? How can you help keep the product cheap if you aren't part of megan racing?

Sorry for the confusion. I don't work for Megan Racing, but I am helping them by providing my car to test parts. What may have confused some of you guys is that normally when a company wants to make, say, a catback for a 2g GSX, they borrow someone's car for a few days, make measurements etc, and return the car to the person with a guarantee for a free part or some compensation for the inconvience. What happened with me was I brought my car to Megan Racing, but I stayed with them as they created the prototype, offering suggestions based on what I know and what has been mentioned in this thread. That's why I use "we" instead of "them", because I was actually helping them create the prototype, but I don't work for them. Why am I doing this? Honestly, because I will get a free catback/downpipe when it's done, and because I believe that this company can do what none of the others have, which is create a product tailored directly to the buyer's wishes, and not what the company thinks the buyers want, and not have to charge a ridiculous amount. I don't have anything to do with what Megan charges for their parts, I just know from the past that their catback systems are cheaper than most other companies, but is still true stainless steel, and have good reputation for fitment and quality (except in the 2g GSX old downpipe case).

Clear, just didnt' want to have a shadow cast over your posts as in the past others have snuck in here under the guise of a consumer when actually were a non-registered vendor ;)

Everything I've gotten sofar from M-R has been very well made and a steal for what they charge :dsm:

Alright guys, Megan would like to know if you want a Stainless Steel tip or a Titanium tip with the burnt effect. The SS would look similiar to the Apexi N1 tip, and the titanium tip would look similiar to the HKS Carbon-Ti tip, where it has the bluish burnt effect. They would look somewhat like the examples below...ignore the silencer in the pics. Please reply quickly so they can get these done ASAP. thanks

I don't think many people care about the finish of the tip. The reason we're looking to MR is the price per quality factor.

P.S. I've been waiting for this to come out for a while also, count me in on a purchase!

I really like the burnt ti tip personally. How much more would the ti one be? They could offer both? Be sure to get pics of it mounted when it's done.

I don't care much for the burnt tip look.

Somewhat on the same topic, I don't much like the large single opening "coffee can". Literally, all I know about exhaust is that a bigger diameter = better flow. That being said, I very much prefer the dual tip look. Is there a quality dual tip muffler available with good tone that doesn't sacrifice much flow?

u can forget that dual tip idea. nobody is gonna buy that. that would hurt flow. so cancel on the dual tip -1 point for u sir

The burnt tip looks cool but suggest to them to go for a stealthy stock appearing muffler. If they could pull that off, then ALOT of Cali tuners will buy it for sure. I am sure if its a duel tip it wont hurt performance by a whole lot anyways.

Now we're talkin. They don't all have to be dual tip, but if they gave the option I'd hold off on my current setup. It would also have to place the muffler more parallel to the car cause dual tips would look stupid at that angle.

Im just saying that most states are getting anal about seeing BIG canister mufflers. If you can stay away from that and not so large and obnoxious then we can get the performance and not worry about getting pulled by the police. JUST A SUGGESTION THOUGHT!!

hey mike if megan were to make a stealth exhaust it would not "look good" for the people with 15 thousand gauges in there car a data logger hanging from the wind shield, after market stearing wheels and there head hanging out the window while they make burn out movies. so i guess the stealth part is out of the question for them. i know megan would be able to make a clean and affordable one but its up to them. but you have to go through boaux(spelling) if you want any questions from MEGAN. thats basicly what i was told. not hating just mad because what they told me when i asked them a question.

you must not live in california buddy. tell the cop when he pulls you over here that its legal. your leaving with a ticket. you can fight it but it makes it worse. so look at the people talking about this subject there in CALIFORNIA.

There is no law against big mufflers or gauges. It's the sound/emissions that get you in trouble. Sound on DSM's is usually not an issue.
I've not seen a canister muffler that would not get you a noise ticket in NJ. Nice that the N1 has the baffle thinggie to keep things quiet when needed.

A muffler like the Dynomax Ultraflow (straight thru 6x9 oval) would be a much better compromise IMO.

On this note, I had recorded my before/after exhaust with/without the baffle on my MiniDV player. Unfortunately each clip is friggin huge 99MB for 10secs OMG so cannot post.

Anyone know of a good way to reduce the size? I tried to create a .iso and compress using DVD Shring but failed miserably  :dsm:

Well, not in KY anyway. As long as it's not above a certain noise level, everything is good. Sucks for you then I guess.... Buddy. :tease:

J/K. :)
