Mechanics cant do emissions on my car??

The put the sniffer in my tail pipe and one guy sat in my car and did the rpms while another guy held this weird antenna looking thing on my spark plug wire cover and i could see the rpms jumping around and he tried it two or three times and said that he wasnt able to get a good reading for the rpms, he tried to first blame my wires and then they said it was my ignitions system. keep in mind the car runs perfect.

The RPM pickup does tend to have issues with pre-OBDII distributorless ignitions and COP. The tech had some issues with mine as well, but did eventually get it to stabilize. Go to another station, likely the guys you ran into were either lazy, inept, didn't want your business or some combination of the three.

every time I've gone they've clamped the rpm inductor directly to the spark plug wires. I'm guessing since coil on plug ignitions have become so common they have to use a different type of inductance reading. Either way just go somewhere else, sounds like they are dumb asses.

they are good guys.They tried it tiwce while i was there i had to leave it over night anyway to have the steering looked at and inspeciton. but ya he kept moving the thing around and it kept losing signal. i had my old 93 gs done at another place not to far away and they didnt seem to have a problem??
