So my car failed twice already and I only have a few days before I have to pass. heres my mod list because i figure it might help.

GT3040 BB Turbo (Full Garrett)
SFP Manifold
Turbonetics 38mm Wastegate
AGP Stainless 02 Housing
3"Turbotech Downpipe
3" Hi-flow Cat
3" Greddy PE Exhaust
Hallman MBC (brand new)
Denso 660 Injectors
Wahlbro 255 FP
SAFC2
Custom IC piping
Greddy 24R FMIC
ACT 2600
Greddy Type S BOV
OBX Intake
B&M Shortshifter
Boost and A/F Gauges
Nex Coilovers
Polyurethane Bushings

The car came from washington so its tuned for sea level and where the car is tested is around 6,500 ft. The first time I forgot to turn the AFC down. The second time I remembered, but I forgot to turn it down for 1,000 rpm, just 2 and 3,000. The corrections were set at -20% for low throttle. I turned it down to -37% and the car still came out too rich. Heres the results of the first two tests, any suggestions before I bring it in Tuesday? Oh and I also got new sparkplugs and gaped them before the 2nd test.

First Test
...............Idle....2500....Limits
HC PPM....1037....302......220
CO%........3.26....(.8).....1.2

Second Test
.............Idle....2500...Limits
HC PPM...697.....847.....220
CO%.......3.93..(.25).....1.2

Any suggestions?

Over here in Italy if you accidentally drop some Euro in the guy's hand he finds a way to fix it :shhh:
Other than that you could have your girlfriend or wife take it, it's amazing how that makes a difference sometimes :barf:

Good Luck !!!

^^^Smart man. But ya, ask around and you will find someone who will pass it for some cash. Thats the easiest thing for you to do right now.

Well I decided to go ahead and buy a datalogger and some 10mm sparkplug wires. The previous owner bought the car in 2003 and has never changed the wires. Any other suggestions?

Not sure what tests they run up there on your car (b/c you're AWD) but turn down the boost, and lean out your mixture. (not too much of course- basically just tune it really well) And if all else fails there is ALWAYS somebody that can manage to GET your car to pass. Hell, go up to O'reilly's or autozone or whatever parts place you've got up there and find somebody that looks like they're a good 'ol boy. They usually have connections somewhere. the ones down here do! :D

They have AWD dyno type emissions testing where they simulate a driving situation. Its not just an idle tail pipe test.

I don't know what to tell you to pass but to just tune it really well and turn the boost down to stock levels. Also do you have a working cat? It won't pass without one. Also when you go you want the engine really warm so if you have working A/C use it on the way there and leave the car running with it on while waiting in line.

I did the same thing (just not in italy). Paid the guy $100 and he passed it. BTW, my car runs richer than bill gates.

Please fill out your vehicle profile.

How were your NOx levels?

I agree that you are probably too rich. If you do not have an AFPR, you are over running the stocker.

There is a large thread that was stickied for a while titled something like "post your experiences with emissions in your state". In there a guy posted who used to do emissions here in Denver posted some information. If you PM him he might be able to help you further.

I think the regulator will do a grip of good for you though.

Good Luck,

Seth

run your car to almost empty, buy a 2 gallons of vp racing fuel ( or equivalent) and put it in a mile before you get to the smog place and run it lean.

Well the car is getting passed in El Paso County so its just a tailpipe test not on the rollers. I saw that stickied thread and I'll try to PM that guy in Denver.

Just a FYI for ya. It doesn't really matter how high your boost is set to for the smog test. Yes, the test is under load but they don't rip on the gears to build up any boost. I was facing some smog issues for over a year and it finally passed. They just hold a specific rpm range and that's all. So, don't worry about your boost level, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to turn it down. Also, pepsi21463, I agree with SethA to fill out your vehicle profile, it just makes the helping process a lot easier. Good luck with your smog, I'm curious to see the results. I'm trying to smog this year with newly added injectors, fuel pump, fuel lines, FPR, intake, & S-AFCII. :coy:

3-4 gallons of 89 or 87 octane + 3-4 bottles of HEET (the "fuel antifreeze", it's mostly alcohol, burns MUCH cleaner than gasoline) water removal got me decent idle emissions on a motor with 133,000 miles. The operator mistakenly entered it as automatic transmission and I don't know if that makes any difference. I have a 3" turbo-back, 3" cat, 255 lph high-pressure fuel pump, aftermarket AFPR set to factory level, 510cc injectors (not huge, but can effectively screw up emissions) and 3" GM MAFT.

I drove around for about 20 miles to cycle the gas and to warm the car up (the warmer the car, the better results you'll get). I leaned the car out slightly just before testing.

PLEASE DO NOT BUILD BOOST ON THAT SORT OF GAS MIXTURE. I'M NOT LIABLE FOR ANY PROBLEMS THIS PROCEDURE MAY CAUSE YOU--USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. WATCH KNOCK AND A/F VALUES (O2 SENSOR VOLTAGE AT LEAST).

There are shops that do emissions work and can test your car for the sake of repair, not mandated testing--for a fee of course.

I added a bottle of octange booster (for up to 20 gallons) and filled up to the top with 93 octane after testing. You can always drain the concoction

get an illegal smog.. LOL.. thats what i did.. just get to kno some of the guys at a local tuner shop and he'll hook u up..

i know in ohio, where i have e check, if you get a mechanics note saying you paid for a new turbo it is considered part of the 300 you have to spend on emissions system parts, and if you still have the recipt for your turbo you can proably just shop them that and say your turbo blew and that you just fixed it with a new turbo. that will pass you. i have talked with people who work for echeck and they told me that would work.

thank god here in NC they are stopping the sniffer on obd2 cars starting Jan 1, 2006 :thumb:

Well, I went in to take the test and was told they couldnt test my car. My car is too low by about 2.5" :) . So I went in to get a waiver and I argued with them for about 20 minutes. They told me I had a cylinder misfire (which cant be since I just dynoed the car last week at 340awhp). I told them I couldnt adjust my timings. Well turns out, if I spend $60 more to get a shop to tell me my timings are too advanced then I can get a waiver.

This is the cool part, for my "emissions repair" I can get DSMLink and use it as part of the cost to get a waiver :thumb:

im not going to lie i feel bad for all of you that had to pass emission. up here in MN ive never seen an emission test. i would be screwed ive got 3" exhaust no cat and im going to remove all emissions.
