There is a manual tranny for sale and the person is saying it was from or for a 1.8L DSM. They told me it may fit in a 2.0L dsm. The tranny model info is "Model KM 206"

Here is a pic of it:

i am no expert on this, but i doubt it the 1.8 doesn't have the same block as a 4g63(least i never thought so)

also why do you need a new trans is it because you broke yours or are your doing a a/t to m/t swap?

Yeah, im starting to prepare for a complete engine swap. My plans are to replace my current engine with the 4G63T and replacing the stock Turbo with a Big 16 Turbo. The tranny I have now has about 122,000 miles on it along with the clutch.

I know I am going to have to replace all these stock parts before I put the engine in so im getting a head start before the summer roles around.

So,... does anyone know? I only have about an hour to decide anyone's help is very welcome.

I think you need the F5M22, I thought those came in the 1.8's. If it isn't the F5M22, then it won't work.

edit: I didn't see you were going to do a 4g63 turbo swap. In that case, the only tranny you want is a FWD Turbo trans. Don't remember the code on those...

I know it's a late response but it should bolt right up the only difference I see is that the 4g63 and f5m31 have a five bolts that bolt the transmission to the block and the 1.8 (which I think is the g4cn from Hyundai) have 4 bolts that bolt the transmission to the block. All four bolts from the km206 line up to 4g63 but I don't know about the bell housing.

Also I haven’t inspected the transmission mounts which the f5m31 has tree mounts and the km206 has only one. This is due to the g4cn has tree motor mounts and the 4g63 has only one motor mount. The km206 might bolt up to a 4g63 but it might not bolt on to the chassis

:nono:you may want to read this thread before giving some info the 1.8 is the same block only three differences
-4g63 has oil squiters - 1.8 g4cn no oil squiters
-4g63 85.5mm bore - g4cn 81.5mm bore
-4g63 five holes to bolt on transmission -g4cn four holes to bolt on transmission

Looks like you ought to have left it alone.

Where was anyone anywhere in this thread discussing the F5M31 transmission? With respect to DSMs, that is a 2G transmission and this thread is wholly about 1Gs.

4G63 engines use either 4 or 5 bolts, depending on whether the engine is from a 1G or a 2G. This has been beaten to death. 1G engines use 4 main bolts holding the transmission and block together; 2Gs use 5.

The 1.8L being discussed here is a 4G37 found in D21A models of the 1G DSM.

The KM206 is an early manual transmission found in these 1.8L models and some non-turbo 2.0L 4G63 models produced before March of 1989.

Also I haven't inspected the transmission mounts which the f5m31 has tree mounts and the km206 has only one. This is due to the g4cn has tree motor mounts and the 4g63 has only one motor mount. The km206 might bolt up to a 4g63 but it might not bolt on to the chassis
The 4G37 mounts like any other 1G 4G63 engine. The 2G 4G63, in this instance, is the odd ball out that only has one engine mount and its transmission (2G, not just any F5M33) has three.

As stated above, both 4G37 and 4G63 models used the KM206; it will bolt up to either block.

The 4G37 bore is 80.6mm.

Way to revive almost a decade old thread.

Just because this thread is up there now, for anyone who might stumble across this and wonder without reading through it, as 19Eclipse90 stated - the manual transmission found in the 1.8 vehicles will bolt directly to the 4G63 with absolutely no issue. I have performed the 1.8 to 2.0 swap. There is discussion/debate on if it is safe to use the 1.8 transmission with a 4G63t, but that is an entirely different discussion that can be found by searching.

Short answer is - your 1.8 Trans will bolt up to your 2.0 block as far as 1G's are concerned.
