wtf the car has been running so good i finally decided to race a kid i know with a 5.0 mustang talking all this crap how dsms are slow and junk and all this so i waited for a nice cold night. we take off tied i pull in 2nd and start to pull away when i go to shift into 3rd it goes on so easy and i let off knowing that something happened. i have a 90 laser fwd did i break something in the trans? i see the cables moving and the metal pcs going into the trans moving. now when i came to a stop tried to put into 1st and the trans locks so i know its stuck in 3rd cause i tried it in every gear and it locked up. i dun messed something up!! please help:barf: oh by the way he missed 3rd also so i guess i won cause he let off too

I just had the same thing happen to me last night. I shifted hard into 3rd and it went so easily that I knew I had done something as well. It shifted into 4th but it won't go into 5th and when I put it in 3rd it doesn't go into gear. We may have the same problem so i hope someone replies. I can shift 1,2,4,R but this morning it got stuck in 4th... I even pulled the shifter into the neutral position and it was still in 4th. I held it in 4th for a little while and gave it gas and let it off a few times and then I noticed the shifter was moving a little when I would throttle up. I pulled it into neutral and it would shift again... just not in 3rd or 5th.

If you find anything please respond back and I will do the same.

Sounds to me like you guys broke a shift fork. The trans will definitely have to come out and be taken apart to see what the damage is. I have a parts trans for a 90-92 FWD turbo if any of you are interested once you find out what is wrong. It is a working trans but 1st gear whines and the 1st gear synchro is bad, meaning you have to be fully stopped to put it in 1st gear. Good luck.

Street-Racing.:toobad::rolleyes:

If you can NOT shift into any other gear, with the exception of 3rd.
Well then its rebuild time as your 3rd synchro welded itself to the mainshaft.

However a broken shift fork could be your problem, along with many other possibilities given the right circumstances.

my buddy had the exact same problem. he thought he blew his transmission. his linkages looked to be moving and working, but when he took it into the shop they were shot. new linkages and was ripping again in no time.

so i took the trans out and apart and the shift fork was so broke. so while i have it apart i will be changing all the synchros, bearings, seals and adding a double 2nd gear synchro. just cause its open now. hope this helps everyone else figure out whats wrong and how to fix it.

and now the kid sold the mustang so no rematch :toobad: but he did go VDUB:thumb::D

So I am in the middle of pulling my transmission as well and I can't figure out how to get the driver side CV out. Do I have to take the bracket off that is in the middle? I got the pass side out but I pulled the cv apart in the process :(.

I have both cables, and the electrical clip on top removed, I think I just need to pull the speedo, starter, and slave cylinder and then pull the bellhousing bolts right? Do I have to pull the "transfer Case" off? I took of the six bolts that hold it on but I can't get it to budge! I don't think it is in the way so i might just leave it there. Oh yeah... I need to drain the oil too.

As I was pulling the car into the shed it wouldn't shift without grinding in ANY gear. I am definitely going to have to rebuild it! :notgood:

That is what I was worried about, they are really hard to get to! What was supposed to be an easy 2 hour job has taken me 4 hours already :). Nothing wants to come apart on this car.

Thanks!!

Another question... I pulled apart the CV at the inner boot, can I just cut off the old metal clamp and go get another clamp and just tighten it onto it or does it have to be a special type of clamp?
