The picture shows what they did.. somehow managed to put kind of a dent on the lifter hole.. I doubt they will do anything about to fix it though. We got the lifter in the hole by putting an oversized socket around it and hitting the socket lightly with a hammer. Now its all the way in there, but stuck hard.. I want to go ahead and finish putting everything together, but I wanted a few opinions as to whether it will be ok leaving it that way or not.

it might be ok but i dont really know 100% it will have to depend on your lifter really. you really should of taken it back to them they could of probably opened that hole back up. you really shouldnt have to force anything when building a motor its just asking for problems later on

I don't think there is a way for me to prove they did it.. I picked it up from the machine shop probably 4 months ago and just now got the parts to build it.

should work ok, you should have tapped it with a dowel or something to dent it back till the lifter went in easier. i doubt that you could dent to lifter body, and the lifter gets its oil from the bottom. if anything the thing wont spin in the hole. they don't spin much at all but they do spin a bit.

check and see if there is any radial play in the lifter while it's in the hole, and check that it still compresses. If these 2 check out, you're ok.

If there is ANY radial play in the lifter, take it back, or make them replace the head.

I know that there were probably better ways to do it, but we didn't hurt the lifter itself, it is just very stuck in there now. I didn't know that they spin a little.. I hope it will be ok, the guys at that shop are total jerks, I hate taking anything to them, but when you live in the boonies sources are limited.
I'll check the lifter itself out a little more when I get home tonight. Damn, I don't want to start all over...
