Yes I know this has been asked many times... many many times before as i have searched and read many of the threads. Can't really find what im looking for... if im asking for to much and i should search better than mods please delete this and I will search even more.

I need to bring all my stuff into the machine shop soon as i just ordered all my parts for my build. all of this stuff has 100k miles on it.

Bringing in my pistons to get pressed onto the rods. my rods have some surface rust on them... what should i get them to do? they are stock 1g rods and i want them to be as strong as possible.... what all can the machine shop do?

Crank - crank also has this little bit of surface rust on it (or what looks like surface rust, engine has been sitting quite the while) what do i need to get done to it for it also to be as strong as possible.

Head - head has build up/surface rust on the bottom of the valves.... i am going to get it resurfaced should i get them to do a valve job? what all is done when they do a valve job? can i do the valves myself? because if i can i will. I am pretty against paying shops to do labour for me if i can do it myself.

My block is already done.

also anyone know of a ballpark price range all this will cost me?
pistons onto rods, rods cleaned (and whatever else), cranks inspected and polished? (and whatever else), and head resurfaced and possibly valve job?

thank you sorry if this has been answered... i have searched lots but just cannot find the specific answers i am looking for

Thanks alot

well sounds like your on the right path....

cleaning the rods isnt bad, hot tank and maybe have them glass beaded about $5-$7 each
R&R pistons $10 each

you may want to have the rotating assembly balanced at this time about $175.00

clean check polish crank about $50.00
how long has the head been sitting around? this may be a good factor in deciding to have a valve job and replace the valve seals and have the springs tested, guides checked.
Valve job $160.00
surface head$40.00
R&R guides,labor$3.00
Guide, part $2.85

this will show you how seats are cut and guides changed..

if you plan on running stock cams, and the springs are weak, I like the BC1100 springs and they work well with the factory retainers about $100.00 for the set
also you may want to do this to your valves...
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/341288-why-have-your-valves-back-cut.html
the shop may charge an extra fee for this.
you may want to do this mod before the head is surfaced....
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/341028-4g63t-head-oil-port-mod.html
the surfaceing should be finished for the HG you plan on running.. MLS? or composite?
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...face-4g63t-cylinder-head-mls-head-gasket.html
do NOT let the head be belt surfaced...

good luck with your build!!
