Hey, I had weavers "machine" the lifters and bleed them upon rebuilding the rest of my 1g 6 bolt head. most everything was replaced/machined other than the valves which were just cleaned up. I inquired about what should be done about priming and they said I don't have to do anything prime the motor. All I did since the bottom wasn't new was turn it over a few times with cas unplugged to get pressure up top. So did they mess up bleeding my lifters or what? some are very tight while others are very loose. What should they be like? It's making an awful noise.... worse than typical lifter tic for sure.

I would reBleed your lifters bro!! Don't expect Somone else to do it, plus how long ago did they supposedly do it? Why so much work to the head? Why would they need to machine the lifters? Did you have the cam journals done to? Somtimes you have to run it abit and they will quite down!

Why did they machine the lifters? If they didn't replace any valves then the heights would have remained the same and there should have been no need to machine the lifters.

Lifters should pump up after just a couple of minutes. Noise after that amount of time is usually indicative of a different problem.
 
(1) You don't need engine restore. That only be for dirty lifters. (2) I don't know why they machined the lifters or if they did. They may have just sold you on that but didn't actually have to do it. (3) I cleaned and bled the lifters in my 2.4 according to factory procedure and they ticked till 2nd day running. (4) If you only let it run a minute that's not long enough. Generally they should quite in 5-15 minutes. Every situation is different however.
 
The noise has reduced to the typical dsm lifter tic. It's still bad but not nearly as bad. I let it run up to operating temp. The local weavers said the lifters were all smooth and nothing was done to them actually. They charged for machine lifter but was actually cam grooves or something else can related they did. They told me that they only put minial amounts of oil in them for priming and don't take then apart at all.
 
I would not trust their explanation, I think they are giving you a run around.
I agree with JMS, do a compression test just in case, lifters should not take that long to pump up.
 
I had a set of 3G lifters that I had bought new and then they sat for a couple years after I put around 30k miles on em. When I decided to use the lifters in a new build, I soaked and cleaned them and primed them, but when I fired up the motor they would not stop ticking no matter what I did so I decided to buy a new set.
When I change lifters, I fire it up, let it idle about a minute, then just take it out for a gentle drive, around 3k rpm for about 2 miles, came home and theyre all quiet.
Try taking it for a drive to put some load on everything and then check it out. I know its apples to oranges, but the Mitsu Montero uses hydraulic lash adjusters as well, and in the manual, it is very specific that you have to load the motor and gradually ramp up rpm to 3.5k or so to get the lifters to shut up.

On another note, I would never consider myself to be an expert, but I can honestly say that I have never heard of machining lifters in any situation, so I dont know what the hell they are referring to...
