I just picked up a 2Ga Eclipse GS (420a? The pulleys are facing the passenger side) and it grinds when going into reverse and doesn't like to catch first. I'm guessing a synchro is out and I'm planning on doing a rebuild on it.

My question is, where is a good place to find a rebuild kit? I've seen the kits on Jacks but the kit for the 2G says it's for a Turbo FWD whereas mine is NA. Will this kit work or is there another one I'm missing. The model year is 1995.

Kit: http://www.jackstransmissions.com/collections/dsm-gs-t-turbo-fwd-kits/products/kit-b-economy-1

Also this is my first post and first look into the DSM (what does it stand for?) community. Always wanted a 3G eclipse but couldn't pass up the deal on this 2G.

Thanks in advance for any help!

DSM stands for diamond star motors. Plenty out there on this site for info into the history.

As for a rebuild kit for the trans look here:
http://www.americanpowertrainwarehouse.com/a578-f5mc1-nvt350-nvt355-t350/

Also look on neons.org. They have the same trans (nvt350). Just know there are other options for transmissions that you can drop in. No idea what your goals are (i.e. Daily driver, eventual performance build)

Also check out 2gnt.com.

Thanks for the info. I'm torn between daily and track but either way wanna keep it street legal. Leaning more towards daily with some performance.

Which neons use the same trans? There are a ton of the mid-90s style going for $400-$600 in my area.

Also your sig says Street Build 20g Manual. Is that $20k in the car?

Edit

Is this the kit for the transmission: http://www.americanpowertrainwareho...with-synchro-rings-nvt350-fits-94-00-bk414ws/

It's the only full rebuild kit I see.

No 20g as in the turbo is a 20g Mitsubishi turbo.

That's the only kit I know of besides finding freelancers on neons.org.

See this for alternate neon transmissions. You want ones with hydraulic clutches for a direct bolt in.

I have not done anything really to my trans yet. But if I were I would look for a 3.55 final gear trans found in the early 2000s neons.

Thanks for the info. I plan on just dropping in a junkyard tranny an rebuilding the old one.

I also need help rebuilding my motor cause im planning to throw a turbo on it. Any suggestions on what parts i need to rebuild the motor cause it is currently on 165k miles.

As for the rebuild, I just did a partial top end rebuild on my 420a. I'm not going to touch the bottom end until something breaks. Aside from what the machine shop did, these are the parts I bought.

Gasket kit
Timing kit

Search around on the forums for a while. Make them your best friend. GL

Are those oem parts? Im putting a t3/t4 so im looking for performance parts

Like he said just search. There are not as many choices for the 420a like there are for the 4g63.

Basically stock crank, eagle rods and JE or wiseco Pistons. Top end can be stock for boost. Adding cams and bigger valves, etc will add more power (obviously) but a forged bottom end if what you want at the very least.

thanks. Im getting je pistons, eagle rods, 255walbro fuel pump, t3/t4 turbo kit, megasquirt 2. I was just wondering if that was all i needed.

You're getting a megasquirt so go as big as your budget allows. You will also need a 1:1 fuel pressure regulator. Fuelab or aeromotive are good choices.

I'm running FIC 900cc high Z injectors. They are now shown at 1000cc on their website. I love them. No complaints!

I'll probally go with 900cc too. Thanks for your time, if i have any other questions ill make sure to contact you.

You should buy my 20g turbo and get the right manifold and you should be good to go

I also agree

How have hard is it to set up megasquirt

They are different gears not sure about everything else

Feel free to pm me.
First post here and honored to be replying to someone whos posts have helped me out alot, ive just finished gathering all the pieces i need for a total head rebuild, not touching bottom end till i decide to go turbo(or something blows). Im lucky and have a machine shop walking distance from my house. In your expert opinion, what stage porting should i go for, i have the 420a 5 speed, bc stage 2 nas, bc valves 1mm oversized, dcr cox racing springs tit. Retainers, pt cruiser lifters and rockers, guides and seals....any input would be great, im in PA surrounded by big truck driving rednecks who give zero f***s about 4 cylinder power

I honestly haven't gotten into much porting on mine or really looked into it a whole lite when I was doing my head.

Check out a few head porting threads on here to get an idea of what the 4g63 guys do.

Does your shop offer head porting services in stages? I haven't really seen it broken down like that. there is quite the art to it though.

Another thing to think about is cost and goals. I mean if your chasing a record the. Yea do it. If your looking for 3-400hp I don't think it would be worth the money to do it.

I actually haven't been to the shop yet, was going to wait till spring when I actually have the head off, I just notice online porting services offer stages and its lost to me haha appreciate the quick response, I hope to make my girl as respectable as yours. I cant wait till the classifieds opens for me haha

before I forget too, would I need any pcm work for the stage 2 cams and head porting? any comments on the Howell afx ecu?

Don't waste your money on the Howell ecu. Look into megasquirt. It's really the only tuning option available. There's the AEM FIC as well but MS is more documented on this platform.
