I just picked up a 2Ga Eclipse GS (420a? The pulleys are facing the passenger side) and it grinds when going into reverse and doesn't like to catch first. I'm guessing a synchro is out and I'm planning on doing a rebuild on it.

My question is, where is a good place to find a rebuild kit? I've seen the kits on Jacks but the kit for the 2G says it's for a Turbo FWD whereas mine is NA. Will this kit work or is there another one I'm missing. The model year is 1995.

Kit: http://www.jackstransmissions.com/collections/dsm-gs-t-turbo-fwd-kits/products/kit-b-economy-1

Also this is my first post and first look into the DSM (what does it stand for?) community. Always wanted a 3G eclipse but couldn't pass up the deal on this 2G.

Thanks in advance for any help!

mega squirt is fairly simple i know there are some step by steps on youtube
Yeah i was pretty much sold on the pre assembled ms2 unit to compliment my build, the jewish side of me wanted to just bolt in afx ecu, but i like options and support haha soldering a few wires cant be to bad, heard they have good diagrams

The afx ecu does nothing for a boosted application. There have also been more recent threads where people have not seen any gains with the afx.

Also you can get a disassembled MS unit from diyautotune. If you can follow directions, solder and read schematics it's really not bad to assemble. You save money, have a fun project, understand what goes into it and really get to know the unit. Plus then you can brag that you built the ecu that runs the car.

I went with the MS3 with the expansion card. I have zero complaints about the system. I love it but it takes time on your end to research and understand everything. It's a steep learning curve coming in cold, but there is tons of info out there!

Thatd prolly be significantly cheaper and yeah im not color blind and have a soldering gun im sure my twin brother and i could figure it out, hes a fellow wrencher himself. How does the CEL work with ms though? Can i edit/delete codes so theres no light? Not a deal breaker, car will be off road anyways. I tried searching this question with no luck

Yes depending on if you keep the OEM ecu in or take it out completely.
Nice, thanx for the info, im pretty sold on megasquirt and looking forward to learning how to tune, im sure theres tons of forums on here about it. How long would you guess it took you to configure your ms3 setup?

Getting the car up and running wasn't bad at all. Then learning to tune, adding various things like cam signal, my Audi coil on plug set up e85 etc. it's been an ongoing process for 4 ish years. Car was fine and driveable the whole time.

Yeah no doubt ms is most bang for buck, ill def check out solder yourself kits. Just curious, could i take advantage of an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on my naturally aspirated setup? Or is there no gains to be had unless i had turbo? Cant find any forums specifically for what im asking

Side note referring to rebuilt trannys, i work with a mechanic he said just today that Jasper had flown his father and him out and showed them their facilties in idiana and he said he was impressed. Id check out a jasper if mine ever goes

You you can install a AFPR while still NA. I did it for a while before I went turbo. Not really any gains to be had while NA.

Just leave the air source unhooked on the top of the AFPR. Aeromotive has some documentation and that's what they say to do. I had no issues.

Nice, i realized i didnt really need it just figured itd add some under hood appeal and further progress me down the road to turbo. Im going to make a profile for her soon, waiting for a warmer day to go take pictures. I appreciate your help bro nice to get solid answers

DSM stands for diamond star motors. Plenty out there on this site for info into the history.

As for a rebuild kit for the trans look here:
http://www.americanpowertrainwarehouse.com/a578-f5mc1-nvt350-nvt355-t350/

Also look on neons.org. They have the same trans (nvt350). Just know there are other options for transmissions that you can drop in. No idea what your goals are (i.e. Daily driver, eventual performance build)

Also check out 2gnt.com.
I got hype when I saw this, didn't know we had tranny options. whats best one in your opinion?

thanks for the help, heading to Virginia beach end of month to visit brother, junk yard called pick and pull has good prices for motors and trannys and they pull them too. Going to see if I cant rob a 2001-2005 sohc neon of its trans. might see if I cant get a cheap head too, save down time on my build and have a spare head

just noticed your the one selling the fuel pump in the classifieds I was looking at, I cant post in classifieds yet but if you have paypal I'm more than happy to buy that from you..
