Lost 3rd gear as stated, all other work but the trans is noisy...also i guess the peiuce that came off made it'sway to the front diff where it was forced out of the case through what is now a small chunk missing out of the trans that i hope to go find on the road if it's not back at the shop..

I'm pretyt upset being disabled and poor this is catastrophjic but i knew what i had ahead of me if i kept making moreajnd morepower this is exactly how the FWD trans went when i had the stock unit back then before the AWD swap...

was making good power but never got to complete the pull. I did a baseline earlier and then went out and did some tuning on the street just to get out of the heat and and actually put air throught the IC..

well i get back with the AFR's diualed back to a good low 12;'s area and start makingsomepulls.. Did 507 on 30psi where once again i was riich, then i leaned it out some morein to the mid 12's ( iwas back in the 11.6-11.7 range in the 30psi realm) and that's when all hell went loose... i wasmaking a smooth pull, very little activity on the knock guage andthen BOOM , free revved instantly.. I spooked and put it in fourth and had the gear *whew* put it back in third, still gone. checked the other gears as the wheels were slowing to a stop and 3rd was all i lost..

can anyone tell me what most likely went out if i only lost third gear? I'm trying to come up with the chepest repair i can but i've LOVE To get an upgrade if TMZ hadmore info on their site, jacks didn't wantdouble what TRE wants for a trans and if TRE didn't take a week to even get on the phone these days.. I need a trans asap for important stuff ihave to be at like doctor and lawyer appointments, i can't miss SS doctor appointments or they automatically deny me because I didn't gfollow their exact rules ARGHHHHH

Any advice on what broke, best option (loved this trans before the breakage) and anythig else would be apreciated

Does it feel like there is nothing there ? Or does it just grind and never go in? What exactly is the problem with 3rd.

If you still have 4th you can rule out the fork, rail, and hub slider. I'd be inclined to say that you just sheered the teeth off of the actual 3rd gear.

I'm sure someone smarter than I will chime in, but having had a few of these apart, I'm at least familiar with what makes them work, and theres only a few things that can happen and cause that.

third hjas nothing, just free revs, if it weren't for the damn hole in the case i'd just cleanm it up and order up some clusters or something as long as you can exchange instead of havingto have yours built,Idon't have the timefor that and no one to druve me around either, this sucks, but it's part of the DSM game i guess.,.. at least it happened while i have alitte money in my pocjet

Yeah, 2g FTL, transmissions are much harder to come by.

But on the bright side, you did put down 507whp :hellyeah:

Now I don't like to make claim to doing this, I did it a very very long time ago when I was 17. One of the spider gears in my 2G N/T decided he wanted to see the light and punched a half dollar sized hole in the case. I got a piece of 1/8th inch sheet metal, and two sticks of JB weld.

Sanded the are around the hole, cleaned it with brake clean, put the piece of sheet metal over the hole, and completely covered the area with JB weld. Transmission was noisy, but I got another 8 months/10K miles out of it before it happend again, this time the hole was much, much larger :barf:

I can fix the trans right as i have a full metal shop, even if i can't find the part i'm sure i could perform a suitable repair, but honestly i wantsomthing that's a littl;e bit of an upgrade, this one had loose bearings and sucj already thatyou could hear the input shaft bearings making noise when slow or coasting in gear, itshifted like butter though, i couldn't have been happier with the shifting for being 100k+ minimum unknown miles from 1995, and fromthe sound it made when normally driving i'd say it had near 200Kon it but like i said, never missed a shift even at 8300 RPM here and there

I just just wish the cases hadnm't had any issues, I can't decide if would be ok getting a compoletely stock rebuild from jacks or getthe stage 1.0 economy (those are what i can afford with his outrageous core pricces... those might drive me somewhere else honestly, as i'm sure with the cost of the core addedin i could buy a much more built trans from both TREand Shep.. i haven't slept, this has had mestressed, i gotta figure something out ASAP

I have the solution again. I will tell you like I tell everyone else. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. You can't have a race car as your daily driver. It just won't work. The car has left you stranded AGAIN.

BUY ANOTHER CAR.

With that said, these things are cake to rebuild. Just take it apart and see for yourself. You will be shocked to see how simple they are inside. You will need some repairs if you punched a hole though. Either weld the case or get a new one.

Good luck, but it sounds like things are not good inside there now.

You're right, it's my fault for making power from a car i need to rely on, but until i get my check for the lost work from my injuries i'm barely keeping my head afloat/.. I do have a motorcycle for back up but it'sbeen rtaining a lot lately and if it rains on a day i need to go to my doctor, one of the SSD docs ormy lawyers office then i'msccrewed

AS soon as i get my back pay from my lost work these last few yearts i'm buyiung a nissan frontier (used) because i need apickup bad)

I had a 2nd car until last summer i soldit to a friend to help him be able to see his kidsmore (wife always said if he wanted to have them for weekendt to come getthem knowing he didn't have a car) he got it inpounded and lost it in a month and i wish i didn't sellit tohim now but what's done is done

you know, for all the 12-13or more years i've had this car it's only stranded me twice, once when at the track a bad wideband cost me an engine and once when the FWD trans went out.. but this year the thing has broken down a LOT!! I don't race my car anymore, i don't flat shift or anything, but still the raw power was too much for the 3rd gear i guess (figured it would be 4th goo on the AWD)

But, this trans was so worn that you could hear it roar from having loose bearings when you were going slow or decelerating in gear.. I knew it would go, just gladd i've got some money to fix it if i act ASAP :)

think i'm gonna buy this local trans used to send in for rebuild or buy it and buy a set of clusters from jacks, then i'd have a spare trans with Center and front diff just in case, and a spare VC to weld up and make a VCE from
