Okay I've read on here several time on why 3rd gear grinds only. It could be the shifting linkage, it could be the adjustment in the cables. Maybe I need to rebuild the clutch pedal assy etc... The question on mine is how do you tell if you have a tranny issue (bad syncro or whatever) or setup issue. An example, if I drive normally when I shift into 3rd gear driving nicely it will grind every time 100%. Now if I shift into 3rd gear driving normally as fast as I can, it will never grind 100% of the time. When I'm running a NLTS operation it will grind in 3rd gear only. What do I need to check to eliminate external issued before performing a tranny removal?

Which clutch is being used?

It sounds like the 3/4 hub and slider springs are broken and the synchro is likely burnt out. If this has been happening for a while, expect the requirement for a new 3/4 hub and slider assembly as well. You will also need to thoroughly inspect the taper cone of the 3rd gear to confirm that with a new synchro in place that the part is within spec as it does still wear down over time. If the synchro keyways are mushroomed it will also cause this issue, and is commonly seen with popped out springs or broken springs.
