Looking at a 2gb Spyder GST, any tips?

My fiance is looking at getting an automatic 1997 Spyder gst and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on what to check out on the car.

It has a new top and I believe the owner has reciepts for all the maintenance and repairs that were made including the timing belt that was just done.

It has 124k on it.

I was going to check some of the obvious things like oil leaks, rust, compression, and how smooth the transmission shifts.

Anything else I should check out?

Make sure that the top fully works automatically. Also, check all the seals and doesn't leak. They're expensive.

Be sure to check all the seals for wear. If I were to buy it I would ask them to leak test the top with a hose just to be safe.

To be honest, basically everything.
After owning 3 DSMs you never know what people are going to do or hide.

I had a guy try and sell me a MINT red GS-T with 100K, the only problem was the auto shifter was taken apart, the hood, fenders, and drivers door were dented, the rear end had been repainted, tires were all worn and mismatch, the muffler had rusted off, and the seat belts were somehow disconnected, oh and he refused to let me leave the parking lot with it (I'm guessing because there was something wrong with the trans more then the shifter).

So just be very careful, anything you miss in your inspection you will end up paying for in the end.

Thanks for the help guys, we ended up getting it. Definitely the cleanest DSM I've ever seen in person. Drives, shifts, and revs flawlessly.

Yeah she really found a nice one. It gives me a bad feeling when I look at her beetle and see the little dings and dents that she has put on it. I don't want her to mess this car up.

tell her its a classic practically. u dont see eclipses running around looking that good. women treat vehicles so poorly it drives me nuts, my ex blew up 2 cars. luckily they were junk but hell, i couldve made them last another 100k miles. just do all the routine maintenance and tell her not to run the hell out of it
