Princeton,
I am fixing my valve tix by taking out the lifters or the auto valve lash adjusters. I have the valves cover off, the engine is at top dead center and I am on 3# cylinder. I got instructions off the net, now with either a tool or a standard screw driver press down on the valve and remove the rocker arm then remove the lifter. Which then I will clean out.
The question is where do I push down, The valve has the spring around is and the metal cap on top of that( forget the name of that) where do I push down with out damaging anything, I will probably have to push a bit so I do not want to damage anything. please help?

if you are hearing a mild tick...try to put a quart of lucas oil in. not sure if this will help or not but it worked for me. and i believe you have hydrolic lifters.

ive been out logging some runs and each time i get home my engine is ticking, car doesnt tick when driven normal though, even in cold weather runs fine, is my oil thinning out from doing some hard runs? I use Castrol Syntec 10W-40 btw.

Maybe it's just me, but in my experiences I have had the exact opposite of what you are having.

First thing is check to make sure their is the right amount of oil in, it doesn't hurt to put a tiny bit extra in, it may increase the oil pressure slighty.

I would get some MCCC or seafoam and hopefully clean out some carbon, that may help. If not do a oil change, with a mopar or mitsu oil filter and some fresh oil make sure it is full.

If its still the same, check the master oil pressure, and make sure the oil pump is doing it's job, and not slackin.

i have this tickign sound when i start my car like its working hard or something i will get a video and sound of it tomorrow, anyone else have thsi problem. you know what my car is...(looks at name)

like Project_TSI said, its your lifters... go to your automotive store and try some Lucas oil additive...

you know whats funny, for the longest time, i too thought i had lifter tick.

its actually that i have a crappy 1g exhaust manifold with a huge crack in it. its loud, and even louder when i put my ear up to the crack. also it stops when the engine has warmed up because the manifold is hot enough to seal the crack again. check for cracks, either way if you have some it can only help you to replace or fix your header

i bet it is my manifold, the guy who drove my car out of the shop after i got my arm controler and spindle fixed, was freaking out because my engine collant light was on and it was ticking he was like WHATS THAT WHAT DOSE THAT MEAN??? And he asked if i had my user manual and i was like, oh thats my engine collant you guys drained it? he said, I am not sure. i was like.... OMG so i went got some engine coolant and well i think its my manifold i have this cover over mine i could take it off and see if there is a crack, i need to get my garage heated before i do that =).

-10 out here now!

When I'm at low rpms mostly, I occaisonally hear a rumble. I think it is coming from directly under where you sit.. It isn't often, but it happens and freaks me out. What could it be?

I have a slight tick in my engine bay, it is most prominent when i'm about middle way down on the bumper passenger/front corner area. Any ideas? Could that be lifters?

Sounds like a possible exhaust leak. This could make noises that sound like lifter tick and depending where it is could be making the rumble noise underneath you.

Thanks guys, I just had a shop put my catback on, and they might not have tightened everything well enough. I will check it out tomorrow sometime.

Thanks again guys, I will let you know how it turns out.

strangely enough, i think my car might have this phantom noise too, however, my exhaust is all welded with no leaks, and it happens when im at a complete stop. What the heck could that sound be? Its totally random.

ok seriously i still dont know if its lifter tick or not ill try to explain what its like the whole time when cold and at idle its a solid repetitive knock after i start to get going it goes up with rpm but starts to get quieter the sound is still there when its warm too im starting to get worried and dont want to have to do a rebuild only a week after i got the car if someone can help me diagnose ### i would greatly appreciate it

One thing that I can recommend to help you diagnose the problem is to pop the hood, get a wooden pole and turn the car on. Once it's running and making this noise put the pole near where the noise is coming from. If you think it might be lifter tick put one end of it on the Valve cover and where the valve cover meets the head and the other end to your ear. If you can't here it there, continue on. Eventually you will be able to pin point it's location.

It's ok to drive it temporarily. It is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Here, I outlined the basic area's you can check with the pole(for lifter tick).
