Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Wow heck im even more excited now about my intercooler arriving tomorrow, thanks for posting those pics EVOL the obx kit looks awesome :thumb:

Idealy I would like to do the short route, I myself dont have a welder or anything to cut the pipes but a friend of mine agreed to help :thumb: he has a tig welder at his shop and said he could weld the stuff, ill have to take a look at the kit when it gets here to see how i can go about with the short route mod.

Thanks again :)

I'm thinking about getting the SSAC kit for the 2g but for $300 but can't find it anywhere at that price. I heard newdsmman on dsmtalk can do it but I got kicked off for some reason. I think it was because of my grammer at the time. Really stupid. Anyone can help would be great.

I said aw the hell with it and bought a Hahn racecraft SMIC. I am running a Big T28 turbo and couldn't justify the price of a new FMIC and all new intercooler piping. I already have the set of three intercooler pipes from Hahn and liek them and hate to have to swap /sell everything off and install the the new fmic with new intercooler pipes and routing. I got the Hahn SMIC straight from Hahn for $349! Brand new! Bar and plate construction! Should be mor ethan adaquate for the big t28.

i sent newsdsmman a pm on dsmtalk.com and haven't heard anything from him so if any one knows another person or place that can get them send me a pm please....

newsdsmman's PM box was full on talk.

97gsx_zeclipse send me your e mail addy and I'll send it to Frank and have him mail you.

Another friend on darkboost.net said he can get them for $295.00 shipped

Ok,

I got my intercooler installed, minus the pipes since those are missing. A couple people including myself were curious about the Ebay J-pipe. Very nice piece BTW. Just for reference here is how it fits up:

And as far the the fit of the core. Has anyone been able to mount their's so the bottom row of the core is below the opening of the front fascia? I drilled the holes on the IC tabs on the top part, and with mine the ic is about even with the bottom row of the facia, but it would look better if it was below, with no slight gap as seen here on the left side:

Anyone get their's to mount perfect?

Bet you had fun getting that allen screw in there with the J-pipe curling over top

Thanks man. He will get back to you within 24 hours. I want to order the 2nd gen SSAC kit too for that price. So if he replies to you, pm me.

Yeah I think he was out for a few days plus he has alot of orders to fill but for 300 shipped you can't beat it.

I'm not sure if this has been covered, and since it's primarly regarding Intercoolers, I figured I could use this thread to ask the question...:sneaky:

Is there any down-side to running a large, FMIC with a stock turbo such as the itty-bitty t-25? A friend of mine who has a :tease: RX-7 Turbo is saying that the large intercooler might cause a little bit of turbo lag. More so than usual. Anyone have any knowledge on this particular topic? We're planning to install a FMIC on a buddy's 2g, but doesn't want to swap out his stock turbo just yet.:talon:

The bigger intercooler piping can cause some lag, but it has been proven on here actually with the obx fmic and the t25 that he gained quite a bit of hp from putting it on.

People running the OBX kit, how did you get the FMIC to sit level and not crooked like the write up on the OBX kit says it does.

All you have to do is put in on straight! That's all I did. Maybe someone got confused and put the brackets on backasswards or something and that's why theirs went on crooked.
Mine is not perfect (to my standards), but it is pretty close:thumb: My pics are up toward the top of this page /\ /\ /\ /\ /\

Just an addition for anyone that doesn't want the Gap on the bottom between the FMIC and fascia.

The tech article, and most people here said to use the top fog light mounting holes. If you do this with a 97+ Eclipse fascia, you'll have a gap. To me the gap looks like very poorly done. I unfortunately mounted it up to the top fog light holes, and think it looks terrible.

The one person that did it correctly, Ts97GSX on page 17 of this thread. He drilled some holes slightly under the top fog lights, and his core would not have a gap at all, assuming he trimmed the fascia properly. Unfortunately I didn't catch that the 1st read through.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237530&page=17

So if you don't want a gap, don't use the top fog light holes, drill and tap some mounting holes slightly below.

*EDIT********************

I tried to do this today. Drilled some holes lower, and tapped them, however it turns out it doesn't work too well. Right behind the mounts for the fogs light it appears they put an extra layer of sheet metal for reinforcement. Everywhere else there is no sheet metal. So drilling another hole and taping that doesn't work too well since there isn't enough metal up the hold the intercooler.

Guess Ill be running the gap. :(

I think I might have found these SSAC kits on Ebay again. I noticed that the piping is being sold separately from the core and the seller is different. SSAC has a habit of using different usernames so it might just be them. It's a little more expensive but I picked a kit up anyway for $350 shipped total from both auctions.

If anybody wants the kit here it is:

OK I am thinking of this as it does seem to be the same as the ssac one. I talked with the guy and said it very well could be the same one, so would think it is. The piping kit it comes with, does it looks like it will bolt up? Or would I need to get more pipes etc. The flange on it he said works with the s and rs style bov's. Is the 1gbov also compatible with that flange? That is the bov I currently have and would like to stay with that especially since I am recirculating my bov.
If anyone bought this exact intercooler and piping and have installed it please let me know. I really don't want to deal with welding on a different flange and all.

I will be getting the SSAC FMIC for a 2G once they come back in stock and have a question. I will be doing a blow thru setup with a Tial BOV. For those of you who did this kit with a Tial, how did you mount it? Also, what material is the piping made of so that I make sure to get the right flange for the BOV?

Does anyone have any pics of this kit with the Tial?

Thanks!

Ok well I went ahead and bought the intercooler kit that seems to be the same as the SSAC one but from a different seller on ebay. I bought it total for $330 including shipping. That came complete with the intercooler and the full piping kit with bov flange. The guy said the flange was for a type s or rs Greddy bov. From what I understand that can be modified to fit a 1g bov. I will take some pics when I get it on my car(If I ever get my car back from the shop)
Heres the link for the new auctions where it is both intercooler and piping.
