Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I had a huge intercooler I bought from ebay... Not only did it look sweet, but I could never in my wildest dream heat it up. I was running a stock boost, but after turbo lag.. WAMMY! yea WAMMY! I couldnt belive that just my 100 buck intercooler could really do that much.. Only thing was, it wasnt aluminum, It was like steel w/ chrome. Kinda heavy, cheeply made, but did its job for the street. I would recommend this one to a racer, just a daily driver. Overall I was happy. To bad it started to knock right away. They always run the best before they blow up....

MaNGiNa24 has a bunch of kits that he's selling for 350 shipped. I just got mine yesterday. It has all of the couplers (black) and T-bolt clamps. I just need to figure out how I'm going to rig it up to my 18g (passenger side pointing like a t25). Maybe I'll just use this as an excuse to buy a new turbo.

I just got SSAC kit with aluminum piping from trendy auto on ebay, other kits come with stainless piping. I prefer aluminum because it cools down fast and doesn't get as hot as stainless.

Aluminum piping is usually only superior in terms of it's weight. It also only cools down faster if you have a way of cooling it down. In an an environment where the ambiet temperature is always very hot, the piping will always get hot, and remain hot.

Stainless steel piping is a little heavier, but stronger and it will not get hotter than aluminum.

Ok well here is the ssac and I got it for a total price including shipping for 330. Not quite as good as they used to be when ssac was selling this one but I guess they are sold out. Someone else is selling it on ebay and here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99-Eclipse-Talon-Laser-Bolt-On-Intercooler-Piping-FM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQihZ013QQitemZ230148726215QQrdZ1

Should have it installed on my car whenever I get the endless problems with it fixed. I will put some pics up of it since it seems a bunch of people don't think it is the same thing.
does Greddy type-s BOV fits in the ebay FMIC kit?
and any feed back on this FMIC kit?

I won't even bother changing my leaking BOV with a new type S. I'll just wait till I get my fmic, and do it fresh. What type of material gasket should I cut out? (can't wait 2 weeks for ups to ship a new one)

Well, if you read through this thread, I (along with probably a dozen others) have already used the greddy BOV with the 1g flange. It's a matter or lining it up, drilling the holes and bolting it on. there really is no other affair to address here.

Copper RTV for exhaust gaskets seems to work well. It dries a little thicker than other RTV's and seals just as well as a gasket. Be careful not to use TOO much because than when you clamp it down, the RTV will seep onto the valve.

Anyone have any trouble with the new SSAC piping? I had to cut the lower intercooler pipe an inch to make it fit, it was hitting the oil filter housing when I put it on my car. This is what I had to cut off to make everything fit.

"New"? Unfortunately it was the same way with the "old" batch. IF you used XS's 90 degree elbow turbo outlet pipe along with that lower ic pipe, it was definitely way too long (at least for my t04e compressor housing. So I still had my kit from dejon, and their 90 degree pipe was shorter, which worked, but the lower ic pipe was literally touching the fmic core inlet.

However it worked and I left it as is, but then I noticed while braking my oil light on my cluster kept flashing, but only while braking. I was like WTF. So apparently what was happening was the dummy light sensor was grounding next to the licp because they touched under braking.

So the optimal decision indeed was to cut the pipe a bit. Not only did it stop the oil light flashing problem, the licp was no longer touching the inlet of the core.

The thing is not everybody has reported this problem. But if you mounted the core using the stock 2g foglight mounting holes, and running a down firing turbo (in my case pte 50), then chances are you have experienced this.

If mounted other wise (I still say the above mouting of the core is the optimal ROFL :p :thumb: ) Then you might not have the problem, but still perhaps need to cut the pipe.

yea, I actually had to cut about 3" off of mine. I just cut it down the middle and rejoined with a coupler and two t bolts.

Instead of cutting I just mounted the core a couple inches lower. All in all I probably had 4 or 6 holes drilled and tapped into the frame of the car for the core, but it was neccessary to make all the piping fit.

Instead of cutting the pipe and not having a bead I decided to cut the FMIC inlet right before the weld and use the weld as the bead. This brought the pipe forward perfectly.

I also chose not to use the 2 inch 90 degree bend from the piping kit. I just cut a 90 piece from my stock intercooler piping. That lined up much better and saved me 2 T bolt clamps.
