Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

"New"? Unfortunately it was the same way with the "old" batch. IF you used XS's 90 degree elbow turbo outlet pipe along with that lower ic pipe, it was definitely way too long (at least for my t04e compressor housing. So I still had my kit from dejon, and their 90 degree pipe was shorter, which worked, but the lower ic pipe was literally touching the fmic core inlet.

Yeah, I knew it was too long to fit the 90 deg elbow for 20G/50 trim type turbos and some people had to cut 3" of the pipe, but I didn't anticipate the pipe hitting the oil filter housing since I didn't read anything about it hitting the oil filter housing inn this tread and it wasn't listed on the tech article/install guide by GreddyGST either. The whole time I was thinking, I can't be the only one who got a wierd pipe, but maybe I just read it wrong and thought it was a different pipe. Oh well, I got it to work! :)

I thought you were going to buy a kit from me?

I had a few problems with that 90 pipe too. I had a guy at work cut and weld the long section of it a few inches shorter, until it lined up perfectly. It was still hitting the oil filter housing, so I took out the angle grinder and chopped off a good section of the intercooler inlet pipe. I'm not too worried about it popping off, but if it does, I'll just run a bead around it. As it is, I'm a lot happier with the straight piping and couplers, so I'm more confident in it.

The other problem I have is that the UICP (with the BOV flange) is a bit too short, so I had to be really careful with positioning to end up with enough coupler length. It's not too major, and will be solved by using longer couplers, or just switching over to a blow-through setup, and adapting the UICP to fit better.

This kit is a bit of a work in progress, but for the price I paid, I'm willing to deal with a little less 'bolt-on' than usual.

I remember reading a thread by someone who bought one. Can't remember which thread it was though :(
I was thinking about picking up one and trying it out.

I have someone here locally that is selling one of those OBX FMIC where the driver side end tank goes over the top of the cooler, and I know it's a designed based of Apex'i.

My question, has anyone gotten this to work with a 1Gb? I know Short Route is the way to go but I I figure this has GOT to be better then the XSPOWER kit with 90 feet off pipe for 1Gs.

Not bashing the kit, I'm just on the ball with it. If I find that the OBX piping needs major Fab work, I'll just buckle and hit up punishment racing. Thanks guys!

I know the thing is only like 20 x 9 x 2.5......but my goals won't exceed pressurizing a HUGE core...

I got my FMIC off ebay and have it installed on my 2G. Look up Extreme Intercoolers. It came with24x12x3 Bar and Plate Intercooler, BLK powder coated short route piping, flanged for a Greddy Type s BOV. It was the same FMIC kit that Johnny Racing sold. EI was sellin them for him on ebay yrs ago, i got mine for $600 or so. This kit is awsome and a breeze to install. I talked about this before on this thread with my old profile CMiuc12s.

THE ss AUTO CHROME Kit works wonders for me, i used to have the SBR kit for 2gb and i was running a 20g @20psi and of course the intercooler held up amazingly. but now on my new 2gb im running a hahn racecraft 20g and @20psi also and its holding up fine (SS auctocrome kit) i just used the core and had some custom piping made but ive only been using it for a month but no complaints here.

i am selling these intercoolers on ebay, i sold over 100 of units, nobody returned. i think these intercoolers from china had pretty good quality. i also put one on my own car, never had problem or leak.

Yep, I haven't heard anything but good things from each person I've sold them to on ebay and the local guys on the boards. The only real modification thats neccessary is the lower intercooler pipe due to the numerous turbo configurations on most 2g's.

I have the SSAuto kit, and the only problem I have, is that the couplers are a bit too short on the upper pipe side. I'll be fixing that when I switch over to another manifold, and a blow-through setup anyways.

My brother has one, and it works just fine for him....I am pretty sure he has the OBX kit, which is the one I am probably going to end up getting when I get the funds. They will put any kinda flange on it that you want at the time of order too.

I ordered a SMIM off ebay and it ended up being shit. it cracked around the bend and they wouldn't do anything about it. I ended up having to get it all re-welded. They told me that when they bent the plenum they went to far.

I'd go get a JMF manifold considering they aren't much more and trust me the quality is 10000 times better. I had these 2 sitting right next to each other and its insane how much better the JMF is.

OT: Please be careful with using that fernco coupler as your intake. It won't blow up as most would suspect, but I would be mighty careful with it failing on you and therefore ruining your turbo.
