Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Ive been looking around for some time now, and i'm planning on going with the SSAC setup. However ive been wondering, is there possibly some way to keep the stock foglights with the 2g setup at all? I really dont want to lose them

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but don't mind since its been covered many times already, but to bring new/future owners up to date..

2G (eclipse) (maybe talon owners can)owners... you can NOT keep your fog lights.. absolutely no way.. its out of there

sorry, its a small sacrifice for a great kit at a great price. Most of the time if you cannot part with them, you probably don't need such a big intercooler anyways, and there are others which do allow you to keep them.

However you might be the first person to prove us all wrong by finding out a way to keep the foglights. Just by the looks of it though, it will probably be bulging out of the hole like a giant tumor and will take some custom fabricating, seems like a lot more work that might not be worth it.. but Good luck!

I just installed my SS Autochrome FMIC. Everything went pretty well and it look great. My only problem now is the FMIC is pressed up against the PS lines. It's fine there and it fits well, but is there any reason to not have the FMIC and PS lines pressing against eachother, or will they be fine?

I'd like to know the same thing. In other words, will the P.S. lines harm the fmic with heat?

Well, I've finally got my SSAC fmic mounted. I still need to finish trimming the bumper cover but it's mounted. I used the top outer fog light threads to mount it. However I also made up some brackets that screw into the bottom fog light holes and the support the IC from the top of the outside brackets. This will help to taking any force from the weight of the IC off the main mounting bolts.
Here you can see the extra brackets that I have giving extra support. You can also see the aluminum center brace that I installed to replace the original to support the hood latch.

This is the top center bolt. i have it going through the hood latch>the intercooler tab>the rad support frame>and then finally the center hood latch support that I put in.

I've also decided to keep the original crash bumper installed for extra safety, IC protection, and the fact that it makes a good tool shelf while installing the new turbo.:thumb: I cut right through it in a minute with a circular saw and then trimmed the styrofoam and liquid nailed it onto the crash bumper. The bumper along with the styrofoam provides a bit of a support for the cover to rest on which might also help it to keep it's shape and prevent any possible sagging.

All in all, I'm really happy with the installation and can't wait to get the car up and running.:D

I bought the 2g install kit from ExtremePsi. I hope it is the correct j pipe. I'm still waiting for the 16g to come from FP to see if everything matches up. You have to tap the j pipe and install your own fitting like most other j pipes. No big deal.

Go buy a brass fitting from home depot with a fitting on the end. Figure out what size the fitting is, drill a hole a tad smaller then that then tad the hole for the fitting. Use some pipe tape to keep everything sealed and screw it in.

I just ordered two 2g fmic kits from ssautochrome on the 11th and i was just wondering how long does it usually takes to arrive, I have e-mail them like three times to get a tracking number but they won't get back with me for some reason, before i ordered them they would get back with me within a day about all the questions i had! I'm starting to wonder! did you guys had this same problem when you ordered your kits.

THANKS..

Yes over time the PS Lines will mess up your front mount. I just finished installing my SSAC FMIC tonight and I used spacers between the frame where you mount it and the mounting tab on the core. I used about 1/2" worth of spacers.

I think the concern was that the heat from the front mount could melt threw the rubber power steering lines and causes a leak in the steering system.

Okay, conflicting info. So which is it? Will the FMIC hurt the PS lines or the other way around? Or will the FMIC be fine?

Any body???

I'm not gonna look back over all these pages but there is a guy on DSMTalk that is making these kits again for $325 shipped to your door. Exact same thing as the SSAC eBay kit. He is getting very good reviews on it as well.

He is out of the piping kit for it right now but he has the core. He should be getting the piping kits back in in like 1-2 months. Im waiting. It is 325 shipped. And supposedly there are guys making like 500hp on it with no problem it’s the short route kit.
