Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Ok, I am not sure if you can put the intercooler, or at least mine, under the bumper support and still have enough ground clearance. If you get a smaller one then yes. I had to cut out of the bottom of my support, since its a hollow c channel, and i actually drilled holes through to top of the support and bolted my FMIC right to that. Then I made a bracket underneath connecting the bottom of the IC to the lower radiator support brace.

I had to cut the bumper in two spots. In the middle, no matter how thin it is, and the sides. You will see the end tanks in the center section and you will not be able to use the factory fog lights. I won't be able to use any fog lights for that matter. I had to cut out in between the fog lights and the vent towards the outside of the bumper and make it one big hole in order to fit the piping. Unless you get 45* couplers off the IC end tanks then you will probably have to do this too. I didn't really care because I'm going to be making grill inserts. I'll post pics when I'm done.

I am getting a SSautochrome this weekend, from what i read, you just cut the bumper brace up and it'll fit, but you will loose the figs. Who cares when you have badass endtanks and piping instead of fogs.:D

Are you saying you had to cut the bumper cover also? Or just the crash bumper or whatever it is called? I could see from your pic that you cut the bottom of the actual bumper a bit, but I don't know if you are saying you also had to cut the bumper cover to make it fit also.

I had to cut both. The intercooler is too thick to fit so you have to cut the bumper cover as well. Depening on how you route the pipes off the end tanks, you'll have to cut where the fogs go as well. I'm going to cover it up with a grill because I don't like the way it looks. Hopefully the car will fire on sunday, I'll take a pic when I get my bumper cover back on to show you if you'd like

OK sounds good. Yeah if you can I'd love to see a pic. Thanks.

I just picked up my SSAC/XSpower FMIC!
Now i just gotta get a FMIC jpipe for my 14b.

I have the SBR j-pipe that came with the install kit, along with the 90 dregree silicone coupuler that also came with the install kit. So im guessing i should be ok then? Just turn the coupuler around the other way, and it should hook up to the ssac pipes?

I also have the SBR install kit, i was looking at it, if you turn the 90 degree coupler toward the driver side, it may work, but it also looks liike it will run into the wastegate actuater. You can probably just bend it around that no problem. I ordered the ebay pipe because it is an exact replica of the SBR FMIC J-pipe and the punishment racing one as well.

A/T guys, did you have to relocate you tranny cooler for the SSAC fmic? If so how did you go about doing this?

Got a question, want to pick up this piece but i'm gonna stay on the t25 for a while(around 6-12 months) and ive seen what some have done to get it to work, my idea

-Do what others have done, hack off the elbow get it turned around and have it welded back on 180* my question was will the piping that comes with this kit reach that rewelded elbow?

I baught my fmic from an ebay store called something like "JustIntercoolers" (I think). It is bar and plate, 3.5x8x28inch core. The inlet and outlet are on the same side, and it is cross flowing, across the botttom, up the other side, and back across the other way. I had it tucked up in by bumper with only the bottom 3 inches showing for the winter and just recently droped it down into the opening a week ago. Over the winter it did not get chiped or anything, no bent fins. That is quite a feat, even though it only saw 1000 miles worth of the winter. I would recomend this brand to anyone. The intercooler was listed as fitting on mustangs and camaros. I measured it up and it fit perfictly. I will post some pics when I get a chance.

As this fellow member recommended.

am goin with this core.

go to SSautochrome.com and email them and mention the dsmtuners group buy, the kit is marked as 600 w/ short route piping, but they will ship it to you fro 295 shipped. Is that cheap enough?

It looks like the EXACT j-pipe i got from ebay for 50 dollars. My SBR sidemount j pipe when placed on its side that way the flange point down, and the fmic j-pipes, the flange points upwards.

SSAC has always had a 1g specific kit, but the piping routing sucks, it's like the Greddy/apexi style where its a maze of piping everywhere. The core, piping, welds seem like a lot better quality then the already mentioned though.

Digging this back up.

I've got my core ready to do go on a 97 GSX. I've read the Tech article on how to install this, and this entire thread.

It seems most people as in the tech article are using the top fog light holes on the intercooler to mount the tabs. This seems to make the IC about flush with the bottom of the front fascia opening for some people, and for some people there is a gap.

The people that have their's mounted so there is no gapping, are you just drilling an additional hole for the tabs about 1/2" the top fog light hole or using the top mount?

Thanks
