Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I got my SSAC installed today, took me 2 and a half days to do it all. On a 14b the improvements are amazing, and i dont notice any more turbo lag or anything, my BOV sounds completely differant though. I'll post pics up tommorow :thumb:

By differant i mean that my 1g bov on my dave brode would be a short pffpf, like a double kinda sound, now on the short route piping its like, psssssss and it last longer too.

Here they are....

Your ssac fmic guys, are you having problems with your intercooler pipe flange mounting flush against your tb. I have mine set on the table and its pretty uneven.

Anybody using a core bought from "etdmotors", "cxracing" or "just-intercoolers"? It seems they all are the same company, or at least the same products.

I bought one like this today from "etdmotors", will be doing my own piping -I'll update and let everyone know how it ended up once I use it for awhile.

I checked my flange and it was flat to the 1000 of an inch. I am having problems though getting the pipes to fit from my tb to fmic im liek 2 inchs short, but this might just be becasue i have an evo 3 intake mani, but hwen i installed it it seemed like it was the same or even closer.

^ Mine's like that too, but since you need another coupler anyway, I just picked up a 1 foot section from ExtremePsi.

Yeah, I bought one a couple months ago and made my own short route pipes from one of their universal 2.5" kits. I am very happy with the intercooler. It seems very well made. I don't know the exact cooling efficiency since I have an MAFT mine is fixed at 80* in DSMLink. But, I will say that running 22 psi on a 90* day the inlet side was pretty hot and the outlet side was much cooler. I would say probably about the outside temp or a little cooler. It really only felt slightly warm. And I run my car hard. Sorry, no real numbers there.

As far as pressure drop, when I was running 18 psi, I ran my boost gauge tubing down to the j-pipe to see what pressure was at the turbo vs the pressure I had been seeing at the intake manifold. I have a GM3bar logging boost in the manifold and I could not see any difference between the j pipe pressure and the GM3bar. There might have been a .5 psi difference, but I couldn't tell.

I paid $238 shipped for the IC, piping, 4 ply silicone couplers, and SS t-bolt clamps. He has a website... cxracing.com or the ebay site etdmotors. I am very satisfied. This stuff looks like good quality, and good welds.

I liked my ebay intercooler setup for my FWD TSi, it held 20psi fine. BTW I attempted reading this entire thread, and yeah, no way I dont have the attention span. Just thought Id share my 2psi. Im using an APEXi core right now, is it better? Id like to think so. I couldnt heat soak my ebay one even if I was trying, not bad for less than 250 bucks.
