Knock off Greddy Type S bov

I have the RS and my return tube won't come close to going over the horn with the holes in it.. Any ideas? i don't have a translator or gm mas so I have to recirculate it

oh, you have the RS? any information in this thread may not apply to your RS since we are talking about the Type-S and working with that bov only. The RS has that strange horn on it, maybe the guy you bought if from might know.

My Monza SSQV is still performing well. I've leak-tested it to 25 PSI and it's leak-free.

I Bought The Type Rs From That Seller On Ebay And It Sucked. The Spring Was Too Hard And The Rubber Seal Kept On Getting Stuck. Just Spend A Bit More And Get The Real Thing And Atleast You Know It Won't Mess Up On You.

Yeah, I just purchased the ssqv style bov and will be installing it in about four days. I will update this thread with the lowdown on the part when it arrives. I will also take it apart for pictures and inspection before I install it.

Get The Real Thing And Atleast You Know It Won't Mess Up On You.

Just do a search on Greddy+Bov and notice how many people have had some type of problem with them at one point or another. Getting the "real thing" only guarantees you pay more for the part.

Got my knock off ssqv today. I gotta tell you it looks pretty darn good to me so far. If you look into the front of the bov where it dumps it is stamped "sequential blow off valve". After inspection I have concluded that it is not merely a push type bov in disguise. I am about to take it apart for pics and will post back later tonight.

EDIT: Just took this thing apart and reassembled it. Gotta tell you, I'm feeling it so far. Construction is not flaky and has a nice thick rubber gasket on a metal ring to keep the boost in. Plunger responds to adjusting screw on the back like it should. Low boost ring opens when under partial vacuum just like the authentic HKS unit. All thats left to do is install it and make some runs. I'm happy with what I have found so far.

Awesome! Glad to see some other people not afraid to try new things and not just bend over to the large companies. Proven or not you still have to give the new stuff a chance.

So far you describe it to sound very good, sounds like your diaphram is better quality then the one i got. That is the most important part. If you know someone with a real one try to open them both up and compare to see if it is exactly the same and if diaphrams and other parts from the real one can be swapped onto the knock off it need be. Get those pictures up and give us updates after the install and then after a few weeks of running it.

We know it sucked, thats what the point of this thread is...
but if you read through it you will see that I recommend taking out the second spring, getting a real diaphram from greddy, and replacing the head screws with stronger one that wont strip and round out as easily. If you do those thing then it wont mess up on you and you are still under the $100 mark for a good bov. Or just wait and see how ricekillers ssqv works out... might not need any modding if it seals well and the diaphram is solid.

I don't know anybody with the real HKS SSQV to compare the knock to. Maybe somebody with one can post to help us out?

I didn't get a chance to take the rear apart but here's what I've got so far.

This bov came with some sort of filter to keep oil out of the unit, but if you have your pcv and breather lines connected to a catch can or run to the ground you shouldn't have much oil in your intake tract anyhow. Just double protection the way I see it.

HOLY MOTHER OF LOAD, after reading looking at the pictures from the fake greddy type S, i noticed something really strange about my genuine type S. I do not have a membrane. Well, that is if I remember correctly. I opened up my real type S bov because my stupid bollt stripped, I took it apart and there was no membrane. I mean i took the BOV fully apart, it has the 2 springs, the valve plunger, but no membrane. Could It be of a new version of the Type S????? My bov works like it should with the whistle, but it makes a hollow sound like " wooooop" really quickly before the whistle.

This made me think, because i know when i opened up the BOV, and put it back in, I did not have to line up any rubber membrane except for the Billet aluminum purple cap.

I got my BOV as a gift, it came in the greddy box sealed and everything. I hope i'm not just scaring myself. I'm goign to take the BOV apart again and see how it really is like on the weekend and let you guys know for sure.

I do not have a membrane.

Chances are if you had absolutly no membrane then the lower port would be a huge vacuum leak for you, put your finger over the hole and see if you feel or hear anything. It probably wouldnt hold boost very well either. The real greddy membrane looks nothing like the one in the knock off although it fits it the knock off housing perfectly. So you probably do have one, but its only 6 screws to be sure.

That SSQV looks rather nice. The round ruber piece looks to be of good quality but only time will tell. Cant wait to see inside the rest of it. Do you know if there is an adapter to mount that to a 1G type flange?

I don't know if there is an adapter for the 1g flange... would be nice if someone made one though. I installed mine on my new dejon blow thru uicp.

Ok heres my experience with this part on the car this morning.
This blow of valve is "definitely" dual stage and it dumps perfectly while under low boost and gives a really sweet sounding ricer type chirp.

Under full boost it seemed to hold really well but I won't know for sure until I pressure test the intake tract later this weekend. The sound of the discharge when I let off of boost is just amazing! It sounds so much meaner than my 1g bov did. The ssqv makes this really loud chirp/whistle sound that really turns heads when it dumps off 19+ psi. Sounds quite nice and intimidating I might add.

I did get to pressure test the system a little bit this morning and this bov was leaking pressure out of the adjusting screw on the rear of the unit. I attempted to fix this by applying teflon tape but that did not work. Later tonight I will redo this fix with a thicker band of teflon tape and re-test the system. I will post pics of the completed install later.

No recirc adapter included but I'm going to pick one up because, "dang" this bov is stupid loud! I almost made some old folk run into the curb when it popped off!

I previously stated that my knock off leaked pressure around the adjusting screw, well come to find out that the authentic ones with the adjusting screws leaks there too!
A little thread sealant seems to be the cure.
