Knock off Greddy Type S bov

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

LOL man whatever. If firms like greddy and HKS didint rip people off so bad for buying a name brand then maybe they wouldent have all these no name rip offs popping up.

And china is going to eclipse everyone sooner or later no matter how many cheap blow off valves they do or dont sell.

i personally hope greddy and HKS sues the shit out of these companies n manages to put them under. It's cause of crappy knockoffs being made in china purchased here due to our personal greed, that is helping china to surpass us as the world's economic power (dont believe me? start reading the news).

You tried to come off as informed, but really it's quite apparent how jaded and ignorant you are if you're making such bold and wide statements like that.
And companies here in the USA (read: greedy), are the reason I turn to ebay. NOT my own, personal greed.
China will do whatever the #### it wants to, my BOV purchase will have no effect.
Watching the news and interpreting the news are completely different things.

I JUST recieved a Carbon LOOK, Greddy Type-S STYLE bov, and it works flawlessly. It's identical to the original in every way (minus the diaphram). Nothing about this BOV is "crappy".
EDIT:
Both Springs installed = flutter at softest adjustment, awesome whistle sound at higher boost.
Single Spring mod = no flutter at a medial adjustmanet, ghetto quiet woosh sound.

I've yet to decide how to maintain the flashy whistle, but it's working great and thats what counts. In fact this is so much like the original greddy type-s that it even had the same problems!! (flutter with whistle, no flutter with lame woosh and a req. modification)

LOL!!!!! ROFL So what. Go China! Shrimp Lo Mein is the bomb son!

Make sure you put aside a few dollars and bookmark the site you want to buy the diaphram from because it will most likely be going out on you soon. I too was excited at first at how "flawless" it was.

As for the China stuff, well maybe these BOV's are designed for the new Chinese cars that are on the horizon. :p But in reality, look at American cars right now. Hemis, these 500 horsepower V8 Fords and Chevys while gas cost $3 a gallon and the cars base price is upwards of $40k. In the new car market these $10k Chinese cars will be far more popular because not everyone can afford the eye candy and bragging rights the American cars are shooting for. At least DSM's get good gas mileage(when tuned) and are cheap to begin with. I have a friend with a Hyundai Accent with over 110k miles with only basic maintenance that has never given any serious problems and the car only cost around $10k. Why cant American car companies do that?

wrong..

the verdict thus far is they're a great deal. and if it breaks just buy the greddy membrane to fix it.
still cheaper than a greddy product.
also the verdict is that the ssqv knock off is a good bov as well.

Im going with shit. The moment that thing was put on my car, it didnt work, so therefore, shit.

Thats ignorance, you mean to tell me youve never have to modify something a little to make it work right on you car? You dont buy a model car and call it shit because you have to put it together. RiceKiller and I didnt go through the effort for you. We found that it works as good as the original for us when slightly modified. It saved us a few bucks in the process and we shared that information to help others. :nono:

Actually you are wrong about that. check this website out, http://www.scaruffi.com/politics/gnp.html, china is not even close to earning the profits that the US does, they make pennies on the dollar compaired to here so how do knock off BOV apply to this?

Let's keep the discussion about the technical and functional aspects of the part, not world economics and politics.

Great pics of the hKS knock off. Can anyone compare/contrast with a real HKS ssqv?

Yea I can as of this past week when I took the 160 dollar piece of junk apart. Im the idiot for buying used...anyways

I was getting alot of comp surge with the HKS I bought so I took it apart. I found that some one else must have had this apart and put it together wrong.

The differences are mainly in the adjustment screw. The real HKS Adjustment screw doies not add/remove tension on the spring like this one shown a page before. When you adjust an hks there is a cylinder on the inside of the BOV that is also connected to the adjustment screw. When you wind the screw in it moves the cylinder down thus limiting the travel of the diaphram inside the bov. As you back it out all the way it gives more travel. All that goes on in the space inside the spring. This is done for sound ( I believe ) or the ability to recoupe between shifts. I took out my cyliner because it limited the travel of the BOV like I stated and I wasnt blowing enough air off....now that the cylinder is gone the BOV opens 40% more and I get no more compressor surge...my problem now is I have trouble building boost between shifts..its takes a couple seconds. I think thats because its opening to far and is having trouble pressurizing the back chamber to equal out wiht the middle one, but since HKS removed the screw anyways I would imagine it looks like the knock off does exactly, other than that fact HKS doesnt see a need to adjust spring tension and there fore remove the screw completly.

Since this HKS is screwing me up I really might but the knock off and use the part I need from it on my SSQ.

...should have stuck wiht the crushed 1G haha

Well I just read the whole 6 pages.... Its 50/50 it seems like. Some have had great luck with it and some have had it shit on their chest as soon as they install it. Either way 40 bucks for the knock off and 65 bucks for the Greddy diaphram, so thats 100 bucks comapred to the 200 bucks some are still going for. One thing you guys didn't really cover though is the sound. Is it the actual sound of a real type-s or does it have another sound to it? Too bad they havent made a flange like Dejon made for the hks

WOW! thats a long thread.
IMHO if your not to concerned about how good of quality it looks buy a knock off and change out the diaphram and save 100 bucks.
the main difference between the knock offs and the real deal is the appearance. the knock offs are not machined as well and have minor pits on the metal that affect appearance of the product. if your all about the performance of the product and not interested in the appearance of it just swap the diaphram out and save your money.

Unless ofcorse you call up HKS USA like I did and tell them you need replacement parts like diaphram, check valve, etc... and they tell you there are no single parts sold and there's a 1 year warranty ONLY if you have authorized proof and verifaction from a certified HKS dealer that is was purchased from them and when it was purchased.

One another note....does anyone know where to purchase HKS parts for these? Theres been alot of talk about it but I havnt seen anything.

I'm going to order a knock off tonight or tomarrow and run that while I re-engineer my true HKS SSQV .Its worth a shot for 60 bucks. If you have some pictures on the inside of HKS ssq real or fake please post them. Thanks-Matt
