One another note....does anyone know where to purchase HKS parts for these? Theres been alot of talk about it but I havnt seen anything.

http://fc3spro.com/TECH/AFTERMARKET/hks.htm

Theres a price list with part numbers, if they wont sell it to you try to google the part number you need to find out who will, Greddy told me the same thing for my Type-S .:thumb: Hopefully what you need is on this list.

Alright fellas I need some input here. I have been looking at these parts lists now and I need to know what one you all think this is. Check out this pic

The black circle ( outlined in green ) only lets boost in by blowing the rubber seal
( orange dotted line ) on the under side of the black circle down, but when vaccume comes....its sucks the seal up and that blocks the passage ways ( blue dots ) from taking air out. Does that make sence? I belive its part number 17678-001100 what do you guys think? any input from you guys would be great. The part number is on this page labled as "Standard / Racing By-Pass & Pop Off Valve Gasket" http://216.110.170.84/hks-popoff.html

As for the look of the knock-off, the manufacturing process seems to be good, no pits, no weak or ugly areas.

As for sound, I lined up the inner plunger hole with the unused stem and I can hear it whistle even at 85MPH when I let off. No problems with mine. Maybe I just got lucky in the parts department for once.

Does anyone know where I can get a part number for the screws/allen bolts that hold the housing of the type-s together?
Mine are starting to strip where the allen key goes into, and I'd like to replace them with some stainless ones.
I also need to replace the top screw eventually as well.
Any ideas?

Im installing my knock off on my 1g flange right now as we speak. I will let you guys nkow how it went.

Just take the screws to Home Depot, they have the allen screws with the exact head diameter in the drawers, double check the thread and pitch on their test panel thing. The screws are a flat black and come in a bag, I forget the item number though, if you bring one in someone with find them for you.

Brilliant. Thanks.

I dunno about you guys, but mine stutters............A LOTTTTTTTT. Then I started tighening it down and I sneezed right when it started getting snug and it stripped it out.....Then I think the nut stripped out also.... Any ideas?

Guy just posted above to go to Home Depot. Theres no reason to strong arm those tiny parts either.

Just a small update. My knock off is still holding up to my 21psi attacks perfectly. The bov isn't causing compressor surge at all either. Pressure tests (soapy water type) show no leaks from the unit.

open it up and try taking out the small spring and adjust the screw about half way(then adjust the screw from there based on your setup, it usually take a little while to get it set right, youll want to drive it and boost leak test it to make sure all is correctly setup), if you stripped the screw then you might need to rethread the hole for a slightly larger diameter screw unless you can get somthing started

I think I'm just goign to try to find a real type-s........

ha! you've got to be kidding. For starters the REAL type-s does the EXACT same thing. You need to tune it - be it with spring mods or simple adjustment of the "adjustment" screw.
But hey, if your convinced you need a REAL one to replace the knock off you've had installed for no more than a few hours then by all means box it up and ship it to me!

I know that but it seems as if these knock offs are poorer in quality... Anyone know the size of the screw that comes up? I think I may have broke it or just stripped a thread and its caught.

Of course they are. They're knock-offs! :D I feel the quality is fine, they could sue a better membrane though and more resilient hardware. The housing/casing/springs/valve otherwise seem to be identical to the legit parts minus a little buffing and spiffyness here and there.

I'm on a hunt for new screws and stuff too.
Besides, I'd rather have something to do to my car than write my term paper!!

I don't see how anyone could ever make a BOV and screw it up. I mean, its as easy a design as could possibly be thought of. Even a caveman could do it.......hhhmmm.......opps! Sorry, I didn't know you guys were still around.....

Its not that easy. Sure anyone can make a piston, spring and top pressure chamber...but we look to upgrade becuase those leak. Now designs such as the Type S and the tiny bit better ssqv were not though up in one day. The Type s is unique because it has an optional second nipple for better activation time, but its downfall is having the pressure build up on the bottom of the piston when under boost. The SSQV is similar becuase of the fact that it also has a second chamber under the diaphram only the SSQV doesnt give you the option to use it, you must. THe inner workings of the ssqv bov between the 2 rear chambers contain a 1 way seal. Under boost the seal lets pressure through the back of the bov through the seal into the chamber under the diaphram, then when vaccume between shifts is present the seal is sucked close while holding pressure under the diaphram and that paired wiht the vaccume pulling on the top of the diaphram allows the bov to open much quicker. The type S can react like this if you tap your intercooler piping and run the bottom nipple to that. The only reason the SSQV is better is becuase unlike the TypeS, the pressure that builds up in the intercooler piping doesnt push the valve open, it pushes it closed.

good post.
But I honestly wouldn't have responded to that guy at all. His statments are false, arrogant and suggestive. This person clearly has little understanding of whats going on in this thread as he has not contributed to it in the least. His post doesn't even follow a normal thought pattern let alone make any sense.

seriously WTF is he going off about there. :spam:

Shheesshh...LIGHTEN up alittle, no need to be the arrogant and suggestive person you claim me to be. It was just alittle joke. No need to be anal about everything. There are people on this site that actually have first hand experience with these knock off's (Not me though) And some have had good results. I try never to get too personal with attacks, but was that really something you felt you had to do? This is the kind of thing that keeps people from wanting to post on this site. Again lighten up. I've seen a few posts of yours that were questionable especially in the humor department. But I don't call you out when you are OBVIOUSLY just kidding. Whats up with that??? As far as "seriously WTF is he going off about there...? " I guess you know nothing about popular culture and a light "attempt" at humor. :notgood: Flameouts are uncool and unwanted on this site. If you feel like being the Alpha male, find someone else to try it with, it doesn't fly with me. If you don't agree with a statement a member says, you can either PM them with your concerns or corrent them if you think its not good information, but you should never make personal attacks. You should know better, you've been around long enough to know that. Don't like the attempt at humor fine. Actually, I've always found your information pretty useful and helpful as well as being a good member of this community, please don't make me start rethinking my thoughts on you.

That response is 100% fair and deserved. I felt that your previous post was a personal attack, regardless of its intention so maybe I shouldn't have come across the way I did. I agree that your humor needs work as well as my own. And you're right that this board/thread is not the place for these kinds of things and that it should have been taken to pm's. Maybe I'm a little too protective over my knock-off bov? or maybe I'm just pissed that my car is going "clunk" whenever I put load on the drivetrain.
My appologies.
Back to the topic.

I'm cool with that, Actually, I was really saying that the knock off's although maybe just alittle crude compared to name brand stuff, should do the job just fine. I see no reason why they can't do the job as well as any other BOV. I have a 1st Gen with a Dejon tool mod, but am considering getting one of these "knock-off's" myself. Oh, by the way, I love that paint job of yours, is it factory? I just got a powder coated valve cover looks very similar in color for my Talon.
