Knock off Greddy Type S bov

Hmmmm seems interesting. I haven't seen or heard any reviews but if you get one let us know. On a side note I know some people are going to say buy the real thing don't buy a knockoff etc etc. To point I agree but something like this BOV I may go the cheaper route if it works and performs the same as a type S then why not? Other things like turbos, blocks etc etc I wouldn't skimp on. Like when my wife goes buys cereal we get the cheap knockoff stuff because it's cheaper and taste exactly the same as the high dollar stuff. When we buy coffee and meat well that's where the difference can be tasted so we buy the good stuff. Not sure if your following me or I'm just rambling either way good luck.

i want one that holds boost and has that whistle sound the type s has.. but they metal looks kinda cheap.. theres gotta be some1 out there with one. :dsm:

Just my .02.

Is saving a little money worth the uncertainty of running one of these Chinaland knockoffs with an unknown warranty, unknown availability of replacement parts, unknown performance/fitment and the threat of ridicule from educated DSMers when you pop the hood

If it were me and wanted to save a few bucks I'd just buy a used one :dsm:

Well, i bought one of those cheap knock off ones. It seemed to work alright but lately it has been acting up. I don't think its working at all. I am hearing all that extra air come out the intake which is a sign of it not working. I checked ALL my vacuum hoses and even replaced them all. I would get the REAL Greddy if i could do it all over again. I think I am going to buy a HKS SSQ BOV instead.

just installed one of the knock of greddys overall not to bad dosent leak boost or anyhting holds pretty good only diffrence is dosent really have the whistle like the true greddy s the knock off is real quiet

how long have you had urs installed??? i hope i dun see these problems LOL this ones been on for about a day LOLol

I had one, worked great!! No complaints here, sounded good and held boost.

Only reason I switched is because I wanted to try the new rs........and I love it!!

But for the money you can't beat the knock off....A bov is a pretty simple device to make, have you taken one apart?? Its so simple that even a knock off would have a hard time not using the same parts as the real deal :thumb:

^^^^What he said... A BOV or at least this type, is a very simple device. As long as their spring isn't inferior and the mating surface between the metal disk and its seat are properly seated, then you have a perfectly good BOV.

I have the knock off Type S only because I thought I was buying a used Greddy at the time, but after inspecting it, it looks good, and like I said as long as the spring doesn't fall flat after x amount cycles up and down, then there really is no difference.
My car isn't running due to the 6-bolt being swapped in and little time to work on it, but when it does, I'll post back how it performed.

If everyone keeps buying these China made rip off's of all these products w/in the next few years all these major companies will be suffering, you'll see shops start disappearing and in the long run everyone will be stuck w/ junk China made rip off parts because they chose to save the $$ ans not support the people who have been providing the quality products for years. Personally im sick of seeing people sending items over to China to be directly copied w/ a far lesser quality. We received a news letter from Apex a little while ago about someone that copied their turbo timer to the exact replica w/ their logo and all and they had people sending them back to APex complaing features didn't work. They dug into the item and realized someone had copied it to a far less quality. I've seen first hand local people around here buying some of these products and had drastic failure which ended up costing them more $$ in the long. Seen China knock off headers fall apart and the turbo fall and melt wiring harness, i've seen China knock off turbo compressor housing break in half, seen China knock off TIAL wastegates spike and blow motors up, etc..

So all in all its up to everyone to make the call of wether or not they want to support the larger companies and shops who have built this industry to what it is or if they want to support the China made knock off market and kill the whole indusrty as a whole which i see happening w/in the next few years @ the rate its going.

Agreed (sorta)...for all parts that really matter, you bet I will (and do) go name brand, but if a BOV sticks and you hear turbo "chatter" or it leaks...oh well, buy a real one the next time around. My O2 housing is a China crap SSAUTOcrapper, why because it was $73 to my door. Sure the mating flange (to the turbo) wasn't flat, actually it was about 1/8" off, but I bought it know that and I have access to a mill and carbide inserts at work. 1 hour of my time after work getting a flat flange and grinding on the interior tubes a little to ensure a smooth flow, bam, I had a $200+ 02 housing in my hands. My coworker (a weld engineer) said from the looks of it, the welds would have no problem holding up to the heat cycles.
Also, for the Downpipes, why would anyone spend the $200+ for a "real" on with necking restrictions when you can get a SS basically true (2.75 inlet) 3" off of Ebay for $113 shipped to your door? (Mine was a Megan, not sure if they are a china co. or not since they seen to have a design staff in CA).
As for the name brand folks, they should continue as is and keep their quailty up, and when someone purchases those China turbos, boost controllers, wastegates, etc. and they do fall apart (which as you said, most do) then those folks will come crawling back to the name brands and curse the knockoffs.

Funny you mention the downpipes. I have a customer who has had 2 of the cheaper Ebay downpipes fall apart. He also bought one of the Ebay 02 housing and to start off the holes didn't line up, then to make things even better the dump tube was so small it didn't allow the wastegate flapper to fully open w/o fitting the inside of the opening for the dumptube thus creating terrible boost problems. I got a laundry list of these parts that customers have brought in that were all problems. We don't even offer installation for these parts anymore as it is to much of a liability based of the failure rates thus far.

Megan has the right idea. Affordable but yet quality pieces. There even redoing there AWD exhausts. Allot of companies can take a lesson or 2 from them. Sure there gonna have a few that fail just like everything else that is made in this world. I guess people got tired of paying for overpriced items regardless of R&D time. At least that's the feeling I'm getting. Why pay 800 for an exhaust when you can pay 200 to do the same thing? Especially young kids these days it's hard for them to save up to buy the quality parts. Why do you think APC and such make a killing now? Me personally I buy quality stuff, why cause I have a decent job but when I was in my teens and working for minimum wage I didn't care I just wanted parts. Most of these new racers are young and they want what is cheap sad but true. I agree on small crap like BOV, Intercooler pipes, etc etc I'm gonna go with the cheaper deal regardless of name. Guys like Dave Brode will stay in business forever and you know why? They make quality/inexpensive pieces. Not name brand that cost 3X what it should like allot of shops out there. Rant off. :D

The age old saying applies to this day. You get what you pay for. the cheaper it is, the cheaper it is. I personally am a teenager myself yet i still try my best to save up for parts that i know i can trust for the most part. due to the fact that I dont have the money to replace my motor if it blows due to cheap knock off's. however i also agree with the thoughts on small parts not making a difference, blowoff valves etc... Again though, you get what you pay for.

i noticed with the fake greddy type s.. it doesnt make that laser/wistle sound after the initial blow off.. ? can the ebay greddy knockoff confirm this.. i noticed this with another owner's.. so if this is true.. thats a definite way to tell that its a knockoff.. that and it doest have the greddy stamp..

id say if youre looking just for a bov that can hold more than 12psi(stock 2g) and dont want a 1g bov(for whatever reason), and arent worried about that "signature" greddy type S annoying sound, then a knockoff is right for you.

however, if you really want that signature greddy sound, youre gonna have to pay the greddy price.

btw, i had a true greddy type-s, and i hated it. always surge on the freeway when slightly accelerating(passing) and then letting off slowly, and there was always the PSSSt then the 5 second long whistle that made you realize how shitty the greddy actually is.

only reason i kept mine so long is i didnt want to have to buy new upper ic piping and a new bov, and while annoying, it was fine for my needs. id do a SSQV if i get another dsm.

Who cares about research and development lets just wait till someone else puts the time and money into something steal their product ship it to China so it can be made cheap an make a buck. One person gains while many suffer. I spit at people that bargain buy knock offs from companies that started this scene. :barf: Makes me sick. Have fun with your cool new blow off valves pretty soon you will be able to put them on your 2000 dollar Chinese built Mitsubichi Evolusion. :barf: :barf: :barf:

does that second whistle happen a few seconds after the initial psssst. becaust my 1g bov does that, i dont know if there is a problem or what? it is a modified 1g bov, not crushed by the way.

This is ironic, I would NOT buy the knock off greddy type s ever again. I made the mistake of buying one and just yesterday i was having the problem of the blow off valve not even working. Everytime i would shift you could hear the access air go right back out the intake filter. Took the BOV apart to find that the rubber seal was all cracked inside. I put my hand over the recirculation outlet thingy when the car was idling and I could feel vacuum and it was sucking my hand (sounds sick). I only had the BOV for 2 months too, POS!

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Every car is different.....there is no exact sound a bov should make. Slight differences in the amount of ic piping, size, fmic or sidemount all will play a roll in how it sounds. Mine sounded just like my buddy's real type-s but we had different setup's. So long as it holds boost and let's go when it should, you have a good bov.

And can we please not try and solve america's business problem's here?? Our country is the way it is today because people are always trying to make something better for less.
Read Fast Food Nation, but lets keep the politics of business where it belongs....at Starbucks :tease:

It's crazy, they already have RS knockoffs -

http://prostreetonline.com/buy/pro_street_brand_x_blow_off_valve/

And the guys who posted before me is quite right about the difference in sound on different setups. I have a crushed 1g bov on my car with full intake and ic piping with a FIPK and the bov is barely noticeable (running on a 14B at 15psi). My friend with the same car has a cheap filter, crushed 1g bov, and the dumptube removed-sounds like his car has an aftermarket bov, and being the T-25; it spools really loud.

Maybe they should charge a resonable price then. Just like music companies they are only having the problem they are because of their actions. I have a "china knockoff" intake and it works just the same as the 300% more expensive one. And how exactly will it kill the whole industry? That's just rediculous. Do generic and grocery store brands kill the big names? No. There are always going to be those people who will pay for the name.

Really? Prove it. I'll prove it's not true, at least in some cases. Just think of store brands and generics (drugs). Consumer Reports has proven them to be BETTER in a lot of cases than the more expensive name brands. These companies try to say they deserve the extra money cause they spend it on R&D. Well do a little research and you'll find that most of the money is NOT spent on that but on advertising. Really they just make a huge profit. But you think they're ever tell you that?

The type s can be set up in a bunch of different ways and works differently on different setups (psi/vac amount). To say that it's a shitty bov is incorrect. Btw, that some people have had problems with the knockoff does not mean it's junk. That's obviously proven by the quote above.

Here's how to solve this problem: Someone buy the knockoff, take it apart, take pics, run it on the car fow a while (set up CORRECTLY), take it apart again and take pics, then post them. Then someone can actually Prove what the quality is like not just talk.
