Knock off Greddy Type S bov

Yeah its factory. It shines brilliantly for about 4 days after a wax job and then well.. you know how that goes. ;)
I used a 1g before this but it didnt fit my new piping so i figured I'd settle on a knock-off type s that would fit my flange.

If you can afford a new membrane (eventually) and new hardware (eventually wait till it strips) then this is the bov to use thats for sure. But personally I'd have kept my 1g on there if I had the choice.

Is it just mine or does everyones knock off type-s just flutter a lot? I got mine tightend down pretty snug before it broke and stripped. All it does is flutter 9874654657 times with a semi high pitch flutter.

You sure the BOV is actually working. If you ever drive a DSM without a BOV, after you let off the gas you can hear a flutter out of the intake. I had a greddy knock off and that's what it did, it fluttered because the BOV would not open and let the suppressed air out. I took the BOV apart to find that the seal had cracks in it which did not allow the valve to open.

PS. Also I experimented with the knock off HKS SSQV, it lasted a month before the valve became stuck open allowing a MAJOR boost leak.

Lesson Learned: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, don't buy the knock off's.

Your wrong about the knock off. Like the real greddy it comes with two springs inside, maybe the springs are tighter in the knock off but you will most likly need to take out the smaller spring to make it work correctly. Right now his BOV is set WAY TO TIGHT so like talonTSIDriver said its like a car with no BOV. This is only because the BOV is not adjusted correctly. Having the cracked membrane is a boost leak, your valve didnt open because it was too tight. We wont go over the replacement of the membrane again though.

Trust me, I know what the problem was with my greddy knock off, it was not because it was too tight, thats the first thing i tried. Plus it was working fine the whole time and over the course of 2 days it started to get worse and finally the valve would not open. I never changed the tightness of the spring. At least not until it was not working at all but even adjusting that did not fix the problem.

Yes I am sure if you rebuild the knock off with a different seal and spring it would be just as good as the real greddy's, but why not just buy the real one, and be done. Then if it breaks, its under warranty. But thats just me, I dont like to do things twice.

Can I take it apart with the allen screw at the top stripped? or would that matter? Before it stripped it got snug and then I snugged it down even more and then i was trying to take the wrench back out and i sneezed :(

Heh well if I have to readjust it then I'm goign to just have to wait for the new one to come in next week sometime...... Does the Knock off even sound like the real type-s? I was talking to my friend who has a real type-s and he said with his really loose, it was so easy and pingy so I'm guessing mine is way too tight. I have roughly 4-5 threads left on the adj. screw. If I can take the cap off with it still adjusted like that then maybe it'll be just right?

because its about $100 cheaper and you learn alot about the way a bov works and its a fun project:thumb:

it wont matter, just be sure to hold it down since the springs will make it pop open

4-5 threads left is way too much, i run just the heavy spring with the screw adjusted about half way, I have the classic chirp and if functions correctly

Yeah well the allen adj. screw is completely stripped so oh well. I took the small spring out. It made a little bit of a difference. Guess I'll just have to wait until next wed. or friday for my new one to come in....... I'm going to take the small spring out at first and do 8 threads above the lock nut. I was told to do 6 threads, but all they said were therads. I didn't know if it was supposed to be above the lock nut or just 6 threads period  oh well.......There went another 40 bucksn:(

I don't get you..
Why don't you just come to home depot with me. It'll be like a date.ROFL
Theres just no reason to buy ANOTHER bov just cause you stripped a screw.

At first I really thought I fubared something bad. oh well, I can always fix this one, and put the purple one on it that I just bought. I was really disapointed in the red. I thought it was going to be red red like in the pics but its almost a mohogany/pink color :( And then sell the red type-s LOL.

Could someone help me replace the adj. screw? What size do I need? Would they carry what I needed at like ACE or primarily just at home depot? I cant take the bov off of the car right now due to it being my only car right now so i'll need a little walk through on how to change it out once I get it off in a little while.

what about our date?

anyways, I find the HD guys more informed than the slobs at ACE. But if you can take the bolt out (vice grips, careful it bends easy)and take it to them for comparison purposes like outlined on the previous page I believe - then go there and do it.

Is your bolt stripped or is the housing stripped?

I just reversed the screw now works like a champ. I took the screw out of the top cap, flipped it over, set it roughly where my friends is with almost the same setup as mine put the locking nut back on it and it works. I nkow its not adj. now but it works like it should. I'm later going to go back and fix it the right way. I didn't have another vehicle today so there wasn't a way to get to the store.

a friend of mine is running the ebay type s BOV on his gst with about 300+ hp and hasnt had any problems. he has run it about 7-8 months so im guessin it is reliable. BUT, there is a BUT. my other friend has a 98 gsx with only basic mods and has a real greddy type s and it is extremely loud versus the ebay BOV.

Could be true, Mines pretty loud. Sounds just like the read type-s. He may be venting his? Definite bang for the buck.

if you replace the knock off diaphram with the real type-s diaphram will it actually sound like the real type-s? I was beside my buddy with a type-s on his 2g and they sounded close but the type-s was slightly louder, slightly higher pitched, and had a loud quick stutter.

no two bov's will sound alike.
why?
no two cars are setup the same
theres no way to apply the exact same vacuum or boost

the sound of your bov will change everytime you take off the recirc. hose/remove the bov itself/remove the intake for leak testing/ etc, etc.

i almost gurantee that its the same companies producing the "Knock-offs" if you think about it, it creates competion, in which people say, no dont buy the knock off's there shit, when in reality its just as good, also there are alot of people who do buy the knock offs, so the big company can still make money, and the consumer is happy aswell. i also bought a hks ssqv, i thought it was the real one, but im pretty sure its a knock off, but it has to be a pull type, because it doesnt resemble a push type at all, and theres not way it could work like that. also i ordered the 1g flange adapter from dejon, and it fit in there perfect, its quite stiff on the flange aswell, takes some good force to spin it, i also bought a recirc kit, but i dont think im going to use it, cause i like the sound, and my car is running fine vented, with barely noticeable differences. also pretty sure the hks recirc. kit would work, and its genuie hks, i have the hks instructions
