Do I need to grind the block down?

Simply put yes. Right where the girdle touches the block on the edges. I had to do it to mine. It’s on the instructions as well that MELLO posted.

@TK's9d2TSi Tony, this is not in the Kiggly's instructions but if your oil pump is OEM, also you should check the clearance of one of oil pump gear cover bolts to Kiggly girdle where the green circle is. The girdle's lower edge could be contacting a bolt a little bit. This doesn't happen if you are using ACL oil pump since it has a thiner flange for the cover.

Since I haven’t dealt with it yet. Why couldn’t you just grind the girdle instead?

I’d say for strength. Grinding the humps on the block won’t change anything
 
You should always just grind the humps. They are just for the rear main housing bottom bolts. It doesn't take much.
