Valve cover gaskets are really pretty affordable.....its, NOT overtightening the valve cover bolts thats priceless.

Good luck, SBR has a really nice upgrade/repalcement exhaust mani.

that's awesome... my engine is all a part too and i can't wait to get it back together and drive it...

His knock sensor is in the correct hole, right between cylinders 2 and 3.

Ps. make sure you clean the deck and head surface to a mirror like finish, and use some copper spray on that Cometic HG, or a few months later, you may be taking it back apart b/c of leaks, like me.:toobad:

Can't you tell cylinder 4 was the culprit???

I didn't use spray on my cometic and it held fine.

I was actually told NOT to use the spray on a multilayer gasket.

Of course I never boost my car higher than 20 psi.:shhh:

I'm not saying it WON'T hold. Mine held 20 psi fine too, but after a few hard runs of 25 psi and creeping to 28+, it didn't.

When I did mine, the block surface was clean, but not perfect. It could have been much better.

Personally, I prefer to run the spray on a MLS gasket even w/ a mirror perfect finish. It's, cheap, easy peace of mind, and I personally don't see any negative affects on using it. Honestly, I don't want my HG to move around at all while under a load, and the spray helps to accomplish that. I have seen a Cometic MLS literally DIG into a head around the cylinders b/c it was not sealed properly, and had "walked" around.

Like I said, I prefer to use it on a MLS w/ no other way to seal. Basically its metal on metal contact, that your hoping to seal. The info you read was from a Chrysler tech guy, and although he makes good, valid points, I prefer to use it. I have never had any downfall to using it, thus I will continue to use it. If I had problems with it, I would not use it.

A O K! sounds good to me , may i ask, the 13 sec time slip , is that "up to date?" because the mods you have you should be running better, ecspecially with that gigantic front mount, my god thats bigger then a semi truck!

My knock sensor is up high right under the intake between 2 and 3 you can see the threaded hole in the pick right under the deck surface. I did not move it thats were it came stock?

id also like to know which is the right hole for the sensor. be a damm easy fix to my phantom knock if i just had the sensor in the wrong hole :D

my knock sensor is in the correct location.a cure for phantom knock is to weld the hole shut i think someone did a write up of that , or maybe it was just a thread , sorry i didnt get any pictures today , i had the camera with me but i forgot the memory card in my computer at home  but i got the arp studs in , and dropped the head off today to get a valve job done and new valve guide and seals, and once i get the head back , i should be able to slap it all together , i have everything on the bottom end torqued to spec (i hope :p ) and the balance shaft eliminator is all done that was kinda confusing but i think i got it. and ill get some more pictures tommorrow

my deck may not have a mirror finish but it feels incredibly smooth , i hope it has no problems sealing, but you better believe i will clean it again, plus my dad has this fetish with brake cleaner , he sprays the hell out of it and blows it dry with his over powered blow gun LOL so im sure he will bath it in brake cleaner ( as he did on most of my car parts ROFL )

The black coating on cometic gaskets will work fine on it's own. Cometic recomend against any type of spray.
The most important thing is a that your machinist gets a very smooth finish on the head and block. Finding one that can do this is a lot harder than you think.

I don't think it is very critical to have the block decked. I just cleaned the block with a razor and laquer thinner before installing my MLS head gasket and have boosted 25+ psi very often.

You may have gotten lucky. But if you're taking the time to do that much work, why not just go ahead and get it done the right way? Some blocks may need to be decked more than it is needed for others. I did a head gasket swap once and didn't deck the block cause I was on a time frame to get it done by. Ended up spending more time cause the gasket was leaking cause the block wasn't decked and having to pull it again. But to each his own.

The knock sensor pic is in the correct place. Mine was in the wrong hole and was picking up lifter tap I think? May not matter will see now its in a different place, but should not pick up as much being farther away from the head.

Well, that doesn't really make sense because pulling the block out and having it decked is a lot more time consuming and inconvienient than just stripping it. When you did the HG job did you make sure the block surface was super clean? Because heads are made out of aluminum, it is much more critical to have them decked, however a cast iron block should not change very much when pulling the head.

well like i said its not mirror finish but its really smooth and looks really flat , i will post pics of it when i get home, me and some local dsm guys made some funny signs and stuck em on there LOL.. i will show you later, the honer cleaned up the edge alot in most areas i think its smoothed rather well, bmwisthekey , and spydergst97 were there ask them for yourself , i will post pictures of them LOL and i ported my turbo ( tried to ) and i got some good port on that also :p and my head still isnt done (needed new valve guides) and it should be done tommorrow shaved 20 thousanths off ( didnt know if it was .20 . 0020 or what LOL ) and i should have that on that day , hopefully will be tommorrow and i will get even more pics, then some of the swap

that knock sensor is in the wrong hole. the hole you have it in is where the AC compressor bracket bolts in. it goes in the hole up top.
