I just started taking my 2G apart tonight after a long break from it. I started on it awhile back, but got deployed in the middle of it and then got sidetracked with other projects. Now that time and money allow me to get back into it, I started back on it. At the time it let go, I was fighting a bad oil leak. I didn't realize the error of my ways until the damage was done. As you can see in the pics, the rod shows signs of extreme heat damage. I'm speculating that was caused by the oil leak and led to the ultimate failure. The pieces of the rod caps still have the bolts threaded in them, so I know they were torqued correctly.
I have a 6 bolt 1g donor car for an engine. I'm planning on a 2.4L bottom end with my existing top end combination, along with the addition of a wideband, better boost controller. I'm also going to go through the head and make sure that nothing got damaged when the rod let go. There's evidence on the top of the piston that it hit a valve. Is there anything else I should consider adding in the process? I want the car to remain a fun street car. I only want about 400-450 hp at the most. Anything more than that, and I have my other cars for.
