Just got a compression check, should I buy it?

I'm thinking about getting a 1999 gs-t, and just had a compression check performed on it. Here are the results:

Cylinders 1 & 2 165, 3 & 4 are 170.

I know standard is 178, so should I still buy it or is that too low?

Stock motor, 74,500 miles on the car.

those numbers are nice and strong. pretty even across the board to. as far as the motor, goes it sounds alright. good luck :thumb:

W/ that amount of miles that a good number. My 91 w/ 108k pulls 155 accross the board. I beileve 120 is service limit on a turbo DSM. I didn't know that 178psi was normal, that may be a bit high of a number.

Sounds good to me, I would get it. Does the cylinder hold the compression? I also belive that if there is more than 10psi between cylinder there is somthing wrong, And if any cylinder is under 130 you need to check it out. i got
~170
~165
~160
~160

Cool, thanks for the advice everyone. The car runs very good, and the engine feels really strong. The tranny shifts real smooth and doesn't grind at all.

Here's a couple pics:

I'm going to buy the car on Friday :dsm:

my 98 gsx only has 45k miles and pulled about 170 across the board, those number for a motor with that many miles is very good im my eyes, sounds like a keeper.

nice car btw, same color as mine, to bad im selling it :(

It's the difference in the pistons. 7.8:1 compression in a 1G has I think 165 max with a service limit of 121 and no more than 14 psi between cylinders.
A 2G with 8.5:1 compression pistons has 178 max with a service limit of 130 and I *think* the same 14psi difference between cylinders. I'm not sure though on the difference between cylinders on a 2G. I'm sure someone will come in though and correct me if I'm wrong.

When you buy it I got one thing I can think of first off you should do when you get it.
GET THE TACH OUT OF THE CAR.

Other than that all I have to say is those numbers look really good for a modded turbo car with nearly 80k miles.

Grats on your purchase.

May i ask why you are getting a Gs-T when you already have a GSX? Or were you looking for something to drive while you work on your GSX(if your doing something major) or whats going on with the GSX? :)

Well, you know what they say, AWD from a Stop. And FWD from a Roll, now he will have both! :thumb:

LOL don't worry guys, the Tenzo R ricer tach will removed right away, and replaced with an autometer boost and AF or EGT gauge.

The engine is completely stock, the owner said that he was just going for looks.

All the engine modifications were done only 4,000 mile ago! Which consist of:

-Greddy Intercooler
-Injen Intake
-Greddy Type S BOV
-Some kind of muffler (still has stock DP)

The stock T-25 is still on the car, and he is running factory boost... he doesn't even have an MBC!

I think I just got lucky and found a pretty much stock car that has some really nice modifications done to it. Great strating ground for me to work with, and it definitely hasn't been abused.

Actually, I sold the GSX. I haven't owned a DSM for over a year! My daily driver is a 2002 Lexus IS300, which I absolutely love (extremely reliable, thanks to the legendary 2jz)! I just miss boost, and want something I can mess around with on the weekends.

It's gonna be my project car :thumb:.
