Ok so i just recieved 8500 from an insurance company for a vehicle that got stolen from me back in 2008. My car is bone stock 92 talon tsi awd automatic. I want to make 500 whp. What all should i get to achieve my goals? :rocks:

pumpgas or e-85.?......for management..i'd get the ecm.linkv3..as for turbo. i like the bullseye power ETT 256-259 turbos...you can get'em for 1250$ tops.

a dream part for me with that kinda cash is somthing like an IPT TRANNY. with a nice stall converter...if your auto...and if your manual..go for a shepracing.stage 3.

thats just me though...i would love the thought of a tough tranny.

you have e-85 in indy....?...i think i've seen some there before.

Honestly, I wouldn't dump 8.5 grand into an automatic 92. Buy a newer car man I understand you want 500hp but are you seriously going to dump ALL of that into your car? Buy a car that has a better resale value man, unless you plan on keeping it for quite a long time. You can find wrx's used for around that, or other better platforms to modify. Or at least something with a standard transmission.

Don't get me wrong i love my talon, but if i sold my car i couldn't get over 4k for it, and i have at least 6.5k in receipts. Take it from someone who has done almost the exact thing you want to do.......Not worth it.

Or if you really want to, just buy one already built for half the price your going to be spending on brand new parts anyways. Think about it man. 8.5K is a lot of money to blow all at once.

Buying a WRX won't get him a 500hp car. If he already has a 1g and 8.5 grand then with some know-how, he has everything he needs to get a 500hp car so why not dump the money into it. I'm not saying if I had $8500 I would immediately blow it all on my car, but if the op has his finances in good order and wants a 500hp car there aren't many cheaper ways to do it then doing a DSM build.

To the op, if you are serious about building a car that powerful and have the capabilities to do it, I say go for it, but you need to have more of a plan then just asking what do I need for 500hp.

Your right, buying a wrx won't get him a 500hp car. But go ahead and build yourself a 500hp dsm, wind up 10 feet in a tree. 500hp is hard to handle on the street if its properly done, trust me.

Im just saying when it comes time to get something different or trade it in on something bigger you wont get anything for it, even with 500hp. I was saying get a wrx or something with a better resale value or a better build platform than a 20 year old car. entirely up to you, but i know if i had 8.5k to spend i would buy me something a lot newer.

Not everyone is worried about resale value. Obviously he isn't going to get his money back if he tries to sell it, but that's true when modifying any car. If he really wants a 500whp car, I doubt he plans on selling it anytime soon and if he did eventually sell it, he could always part it out and get much more for it. Also, who are we to say the OP can't handle a 500hp car?

Get a built IPT trans, billet converter,2.3 stroker wiseco piston eagle rods, Unported head with SS valves and FP springs,fp4r cams, and a BW S259 bolt on housing, FP exhaust manifold.

ECMlink V3 Speed density with some 1250cc FIC injectors. You would spend 5g's but run 10's all day long.

I'm not saying he cant, I'm just saying I drove a 480rwhp camaro and you would either burn tires trying to take off or just kill the car because the clutch was so finicky. Thats why I said a Properly modded car with 500AWHP is going to be a bi*** to drive. Think about the kind of clutch you would have to have in that thing to be able to hold that kind of power, not to mention driving it on the street. If the OP wants a 500hp car and would rather have that than 8.5 grand then go for it. How would he even smog it to keep it on the street? 500hp sounds like a blast, but not for a street driven car. IMO.

Do you really believe that WRX's have a better platform, Yea our cars may be alot older but you really think that? I mean our blocks are considered to be 2nd best overall blocks in the world and IMO WRX's have way to crowded engine bay compared to our cars and they are so easy to work on, im dumbfounded on how you see that they have a better platform then ours.

It's not impossible to build a 500whp car that can be driven on the street. Also, a Camaro is a completely different car then a DSM. Lastly, the OP didn't say whether it was supposed to be a street car. You are basing all your suggestions on assumptions that this car is going to be driven heavily on the street. Since he didn't give much info, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows that this isn't a practical solution for a primary daily driver. The fact is he didn't say anything about it being that and he did say he wants it to have 500whp, so I don't think it's our place to try to talk him out of it until we know more.

Ok, rwd vs awd... Obviously the RWD with 500 hp is going to burn tires all day, awd is going to do much better launching, might still spin for a sec, but not nearly as much as a 500 hp rwd car.. Also, you must not have read his origional post very well or you wouldn't have brought up anything about a clutch since he has an automatic.

Not trying to be rude or mean, but your arguments just had too many holes in them.. Let him do what he wants, it is his money, and the issues you brought up don't really apply to his situation.

Thanks for the replies people. I got money and im not worried about finances! I make plenty of money. This car will be a weekend warrior. BTW i dont rock civics no more they are played out! And on the camaro comment did you not see that my car is awd and an automatic? My neighbor lets me drive his 88 camaro that is a 8 second track machine. I handle that just fine.

Please just stop, your talking out of your ass. You have no idea at all of what your talking about. Buy a wrx, they're a better platform and have better resale?!? I don't think so. If the OP wants a fun reliable daily with around 350hp he should just get a fbody ls1. But I don't think that's why he started this thread with the title of what should I get...

An auto 500hp dsm would be EASILY streetable, especially one that's built right. Don't have to deal with a twin disc, don't have to buy a built tranny.

OP if you really want to build an auto dsm this is what I'd do.

Tranny- full line pressure, manual shift box, IPT or other stall, rebuild
Motor- a simply eagle/mahle or other piston setup would work fine, some 272's or fp2's, upgraded valve springs, arps and whatever hg you want to run
turbo- something hta or fast spooling, I'd look at FP
tuning- V3 with SD

All the other bolt ons and such is up to you. That's just a basic idea of a decently budgeted build.

Is that tuning system dsmlink? I was thinking of a bc 272's!

Oh I am? And who are you to decide that? Your just some guy at a computer responding in a forum just as i am. He wanted opinions or else he wouldn't have made a thread asking for opinions. Without a sugarcoating since nobody here seems to be mature enough to understand this. Its frankly extremely immature to blow 9 grand into a 800$ car. The only reason I have upgraded my car is when shit breaks i fix and upgrade it. If i had 8.5k up front like the OP i would have bought a way better car than a 1994 eagle talon.

The reason I suggested a WRX is the fact that subaru's have been around for quite a while, I have seen many many subarus come through my work with 200k+ mileage and run strong every day.DSM, on the other hand are extremely temperamental, very finicky, and tend to breakdown more than they run (general census). Subarus do tend to have a higher resale value even for the same year of dsm. WRX is AWD, Turbo, Standard Tranny, And had a beautifully built pancake motor. Which If anyone knew anything about a motor will agree that. Let me ask you a question;out of everybody you have told that you drive an eagle talon, how many people said...."uhhh.....ok" or "uhhh......whats that" There is a reason DSM isn't around anymore, and subaru still is.

Your right it's not impossible, nor did i say it was impossible, I just said it is difficult. Assumptions Huh? Guess i'm just dumb huh. Here since im the dumb one, let me hold your hand and show you.

I want a DSM 500 awhp street machine.

Bottom Line is if he wants to build a 500hp car that is only worth $800 trade in then i hope he does, everyone on these car forums, thinks that they know more than the next person, and everyone gets all heated and cocky like this guy.

And then on top of it all supravw also suggested a different vehicle all together after getting on me about it. :ohdamn:

Why dont you guys take your arguing to another thread and keep it out of mine! If i wanted a different car I would buy one! But I dont! Simple as that. I want a DSM 500 awhp street machine.

Have you considered buying someones already built car? $8k gets you a hell of a nice used 1g dsm with a lot of respectable mods and you can keep you 92 as a backup when you break the race car.

Good luck!

The problem with buying someones built alrdy is i dont know if they have molested it or not!!

It will have been built and most likely rebuilt, Your not going to be building a 500awhp car for gas mileage are you? What does it matter if it was romped on? you want a 500awhp car for a reason. to romp on it.
