I would use the plastic brackets provided with the fans and make sure the whole kit is used. Also when you go to put them on tighten them snugly not to 50 lbs/ft. Thats what I would do.

OK i would but they dont match up, thats why I was asking I would have to make the brackets or use the plastic things from slimline which is whhy i was asking who had luck with the different options. thanks

racer...are those 10" or 12"?
Well, actually, those pics in post # 4, show my radiator with (2) 12" fans. I never ran that set-up because my dump tube for my WG hit the driver's side fan. I replaced one of the 12" fans with a 10" and thats what I have been running. Here a pic.

has anyone ran those screws on a fluidyne? i was wondering because Idk if the alumnium could hold it with all the bumps of everyday driving?

thanks racer...has anyone ever melted one? I once installed one (universal brand...probably that's why) fan, for the a/c and I melted where the contacts touch the rotating assembly...don't know how it's called. I know have one of those but as a pusher...and on slow traffic and hot days (over 100 deg) the a/c doesn't cools as much and the temp goes to 200+ ...

Yup, I installed a Fluidyne and 2 SPAL fans on my buddy's RX7 R1 with those plastic screws and it works just fine. These thin little screws are not going to stress aluminum enough to cause a leak. They dont even put direct stress on the aluminum tubes anyway.....

I've never had a problem with melting SPAL fans, nor have any of my friends, co-workers, or acquaintances. And my WG dump tube is within 1/2" from my fan. Temps over 200 are OK. The low speed stock fan doesn't even come on until 210 anyway. I have both my SPAL's wired to come on together at 210* F. They are excellent at cooling too; I have never exceeded 210* by even one degree. :thumb:

even those little plastic screws that are supplied with the fans will withstand crazy temps also.

Chris (oncehuman)-

I agree with you on this, but don't you think there is other dsmer's out there with the same crappy, brittle 15 year old radiator like I had? And they could do the same thing I did (putting those screws threw it) and end up having to replace the radiator. I very well could have misinstalled them, but it wasn't that hard of an install. I think it was the condition of the radiator and the fact that I basically put a hole in it with those screws. Just to clear one thing up, I never cut my springs either, it is lowered though.

ummm..... If your radiator is crappy, brittle, and 15 yrs old, then it probably needs to be replaced anyway.

Well Drew I am glad to see that you weren't desperate enough to cut your spring to lower your car. But anyways I dont think the weight of the fans plus the bouncing of the car combined will have negative affects where those plastic screws are mounted. My reasoning is with those tow tractors that tow around the helicopters and airplanes they have a big mutha freakin cummins diesel in them. Those things move around like crazy and cause mad vibration, actually any diesel engine does this. Plus the suspension on these things are almost none existant. These things ride like my old 4 moto quad that had a rigid frame.... no shocks in another words. The bodies on these things are half inch thick steel all around... no bull. Thats not even getting into the weight of the tranny or shear size of them. So I am going to stop now cause I am getting off course.

And by putting those plastic tabs through the radiator it made it that much more apparent that I needed a new radiator. All I'm trying to say is that my radiator wasn't leaking before I put the fans on that way and it began to after I put those plastic pieces through, maybe because it was older, it began to leak. I see no problem with this method as long as your radiator is in decent shape. All I wanted to do is let others know of my experiences with these plastic tabs because I'd image there are a few 1g's around still with older radiators.

My 2 years old Napa metal radiator leaks 6 months after using strap wires to attach slim fans. I'm running Konis/GC all around with Prothane motor mounts but I don't think they are the root cause.

I'm currently running Fluidyne. I'm about to install (2) 12" slim fans with approximately 3000CFM combined flow. I'm not risking another radiator so custom aluminium brackets this time around. That's what those fans mountings are for. I'll provide some pics when it's done.

sorry to dig it up but couldn't and shouldn't you do both ways of mounting. Seems like making the aluminum tabs would keep it from moving up and down while the plastic screws would hold it up tight against the radiator.

Anyway I dug this up because I am looking into doing this soon because I don't wanna put my shiney new koyo in with crappy looking rusty stock fans.

Where did you guys purchase your fans from?I am in the middle of a turbo swap and need a couple of these fans.

I haven't heard of anyone mentioning pusher fans in this thread. I bought a 2G roller chassis with a fluidyne and 2 12" SPAL 1360CFM pusher fans. Any special or optimal way to mount these? I'm excited about putting them up front that'll give me so much more room LOL.

For 1G cars you could get 12" dual FAL fans (part # FLX-525) from http://store.summitracing.com/ ... this what I'll get for my car soon.
