OK Ive been searching because ive been hearing that the JDM awd trannys don't work in there USDM donor DSM's.

I have a 95 gsx , i just got a free jdm tranny with transferr case.. Where Exactually can i find the information i need to see if this tranny is compatiable with my 95 gsx 5 speed ?

more simply I'm sure people have figured out the block stamps and which ones work and which dont where do i find a right up that easily states which trannys work and which ones don't ?

How do i know if it has LSD or not before installation?

thanks i really appreciate it

i think its a w5m33 ill have to double check

ok i got the exact code now is a w5m332wmxl.... i have looked it up and aparently it has the 3.9 ratio which is the wrong one for the dsm's.. which code do i need to ask for when i call me importer back???

thanks alot for all the help.

tell him you want a evo 3 rear (preferably) or a RVR rear. The only cars that will agree with your ratios.

Does some one keep deleteing my posts and my threads? seems a little strange...

Anyways Which JDM AWD 5 speed Transmission Codes that are stamped on the bellhousing have the same ratios as Usdm 95-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX's ?

I had a network puke while editing your threads together. Keep your same-questions to this one thread. If you can't figure out the charts we've provided, call RRE, tell them you're a member of this site, and ask them to explain it to you.

okay whats there phone number..?

From what ive been able to gather these transmissions will work on my 95 gsx.

W5m332 npzt ---- Eclipse no lsd
W5m332 nrwe --- * lancer gsr LSD *
W5M332 nrbe --- lancer gsr no lsd
W5M332 nqbe --- no lsd
W5M332 nnzt ??

anyone feel free to add to the list or correct me if im wrong, but id like to call my importer back to get the right transmission because my car is being worked on right now.

the trans ive got is a w5m332 wmxl ive seen virtually no refrence to it.

By definition there can be no JDM trans for your Eclipse. There were no AWD Eclipses in Japan. I don't know of any EVO that had the same ratio.

so there it is.. according to Mike at RRE . my question was as Follows

Hi my name is Brian and im a member of DSMTuners.com and i have a prolbem.. I was givin a trans when i bought a jdm 4g63t from a local importer and i talked them into throwing in a 5speed awd trans for my 95 eclipse gsx 5sped.. well they said to have it checked out and if it didnt work they would replace it..

it was a w5m332wmxl.. from a mitsubishi rvr = wrong final drive ratio 3.909

my question is which Jdm tranny's will work on my June of 95 gsx awd 5 speed and have the 3.545 ratio ?

the ones i was able to research but am not completely sure about are

W5m332 npzt ---- Eclipse no lsd 3.545 fdr Year?
W5m332 nrwe --- * lancer gsr LSD * ?? 3.545 fdr Year?
W5M332 nrbe --- lancer gsr no lsd ?? 3.545 fdr Year?
W5M332 nqbe --- no lsd ?? 3.545 fdr Year?
W5M332 nnzt Eclipse? ?? 3.545 fdr Year?

if you can clear this up for me i can get ahold of my importer to get the right tranny. thanks alot Mike.

Brian

So Post Up If Your Running a JDM TRANNY and give us that serial number on the bellhousing :)

All you need to do is dissassemble the transmission, swap the output shaft, pinion gear and its bearings and races, and swap the ring gear off the front differential and speed sensor with the ones out of your car (2G AWD 5-speed USDM DSM). I have done this before on an Evo 3 transmission making it usable in a 1G AWD DSM.

A competent DSM transmission rebuilder can do this.

There are no straight bolt-in 2G JDM transmissions.

The only other transmission that has a 2G case and guts is from a 2G Mitsubishi GTO 6G72 Non-turbo AWD 5-speed. It needs its bellhousing swapped to a 2G 4G63 bellhousing, and new input shaft, intermediate shaft, output shaft tapered roller bearings installed, along with being reshimmed and gone through. The bellhousing on the transmission only fits 6G72 AWD 3000GT's -- and are DIFFERENT than a 1995-1999 USDM 3000GT VR4 transmission. The non-turbo AWD 6G72 was only in Japan as a 5-speed in a 2G-style transmission. It is a W5M33 transmission.

I have done the swap before as well.

okay.... i wonder if this tranny would have linkage problems since the 97 rvr it came from was a instrument pannel shifting , 5speed awd tranny.. and not the convention style shifter.

More than likely...is the shifter linkage the exact same as your 2G linkage?

i talked to my mechanic last night because that's where the motor and tranny are right now and he said from what he could see the linkage looks the same, he also said that changing the pinion and stuff should work and in heartly change the ratio so thanks for that information greatly appreciated. He hurt his back last week so hasnt been able to work on the car so this sunday ill be down there taking the old motor and trans out.
