So happy with the cleanup and refinish from Rich. These were some of the last few parts on this car that needed restoration with some notable exceptions.

The original green color is on the hose barbs and the matt black on the repaint. Before Rich resurfaced the tubes, it had the texture of a cinder block, and now it is like 800 grit sanding stone. This thing was fugly, and now it disappears. Nice

It looks like it fits really well.
Nothing getting in the way - just a little clean up on the mold edges that will need to be sanded during prep to clean it up for primer.

Stack is moving forward with the cluster repairs :hellyeah:

Rich has the fog lights to rebuild - new grommets and hardware, and PC if needed.

I'll need to put the street wheels on before I put it on the ground, as the difference between a 45 and 40 sidewall is enough to be annoyingly low - not complaining - just trying to avoid scrapes before driving to the body shop.

Other news, both of my old oil coolers pressure test ok, and are clean and ready for … fill in the blank future issue.

Taiwan fender liners are non-turbo fender liners, so they’re all solid.

I think one of the very first VFAQ mods I ever did was to cut out the louver vents in the plastic and rivet in some rock screen.Gonna try something different this time.

Shop vac had removed lots of fun stuff that gets collected here.

You can really see how thick a double stack side mount is with this shot.

let’s see if Bernoulli‘s principal can work as some suction using an aluminum louver vent from the hardware store.

Final fit is gonna be this. I miss the OEM stuff.

Some trim black paint will help.

Two u-clips, OSH vs Amazon - the clip for thicker panels is better. It even has a barb to help hold location without the screw.

When the modified re-prints arrive, they should fit really well.

After consulting with the body shop - I'm going with a smooth - filled in - emblem recess.
Also - I'm going to try the welding repair on the old bumper myself - I got some ideas on how I want to lay in mesh and filler from the inside.

Curious to see how the emblem portion comes out!
The 2Gb face lift is on its downhill run to the finish now.

1. Body shop has the bumper cover for final paint
2. Rich has the fog lights to rebuild
3. I have new Vibrant hose ends and braded hose to build a set of oil lines
4. Stack (AutoMeter) has the instrument repair in progress
5. John F has printed my modified Bezel file, in shipping

As things return - the car is ready for final install

Time to go back to the track and help John with another GT4 race! That should keep me distracted for some time.

Today was Epic - John held the lead for the first half of the race, holding off two Porsche Cayman GT4 - that actually cost 3-4 times more than a 100k KTM X-Bow

At about 13 min in, Nose to tail behind John, one Cayman went wide dropped a wheel sliding into the gravel- the other Cayman behind backed out of it smartly, but the Ferrari following them both ( not in our class ) makes a low percentage pass and tags the Cayman that was struggling, leaving coolant and gravel chaos in a high speed section parking itself in the middle of the field track right. They didn’t move it for the rest if the race.

You might think - hey great, one competitor out, one left to worry - but it was worse. The race was red flagged, and we all lined up in pit lane, and baked in the sun waiting for the cleaning crew to clear the cars and sweep the gravel. 20min, and we were hoping to take the win from pit lane but they decided to restart, and race for 15 min more.

We didn’t know it at the time, but this is when the GP10 overheated and we lost video.

It was not what we wanted. Our multi-race cycle tires take time to get to temp, and we are racing guys that buy sticker tires like candy, so staying in the lead was going to be hard.

9 min after a decent run, the remaining Cayman got ahead in the sketchiest scrum ever witnessed in Miata traffic.

John had to make an impossible 3 wide save, and then the battle was on with 6 min left in the race. It took every second to close the gap and make an attack - white flag lap - and out of view from my position in the tower, John got it done! Seeing John back in the lead coming to the final two turns - I’m pumping fists and congratulating him on the radio.

Full points - Bonus for fastest lap! plus the pole has put us well off to keep the championship lead.

Now we get up tomorrow, and do it again.
