I'm in the process of doing the lifters..but I noticed this one particular area looks different from the rest. If there is a problem anyone have any idea whats causing it or caused it? Is it possible this is whats causing the bizarre ticking noise instead?

(The towels are to prevent the lifters from going where they AREN't SUPPOSED TO)

i really dont think so.. the journals are what you're talking about right? if it really concerns you, you can always have them resurfaced. are they rough at all? have you taken specs on the shaft? are they out of round?

You mean that little clean spot? Yea, it's fine. Clean is good. What caused it? You must have scraped the chocolaty gunk off with those towels... That chocolate is what causes your lifters to stick. Man that's nasty. You need to change your oil before it turns into jello!
