Is it worth an hour drive?

For only 87k miles I think it is definitely worth it. FWD or AWD. I drove almost 2 hrs away once to look at one when I was searching. Sure talk him down with the problems but personally I'd take even $1500 with me just in case he doesn't want to budge that much. And if it turns out to be FWD and you don't want it, fix the issues and sell it.

As far as the 96 goes, yes $3800 is a bit high (check KBB). He probably even knows that expecting people to offer lower. I would again check out everything and point out any problems you find.

Good luck!

I must have missed that post. Sorry for stating "stupid advice."

This forum went to complete shit with you girls and your attitudes. You both need to chill out. I'm sure you have both skipped over useful information before posting and don't say you haven't.

 wahhhhhh

I would have no problem taking that drive, an hour is nothing. Plus I wouldn't even give him the $1600 he is asking for. I would bring $1300, tell him I take it off his hands right now!

I don't understand the hate on automatics. Get yourself a high stall converter and you can out run any 5 speed with the same amount of power...in a 1/4 mile :D. And you wont have to replace pricey clutches. Just the end clutches after a very long time of abuse.

Though I must agree on the fact that 5 speeds can be more fun sometimes.

I'd say its absolutely worth the drive. Check it out. As for all the auto hate :nono:

To tell if it's AWD or not you can determine it by the VIN. If the fiifth character in it is a T it's AWD is it's S it's FWD.

Can anyone distinguished if this 97 Tsi is AWD or FWD. I thought swirl wheels were only on AWD?

I think the swirl wheels were an option because when i bought my 96 Talon Esi from the original owner it also had the swirl wheels.

On 2Gb TSis, the FWDs came stock with the same swirlies that are in the pictures of the first ad. The AWD 2Gb Talons came with the 17" 5 spokes like this:

The wheels are very easily swapped though, and the OEM 2Gb AWD Talon wheels are pretty highly sought after. A previous owner may for whatever reason have liked OEM swirlies better and sold the originals, or put them on another car if it is indeed AWD.

To tell if it's AWD or not you can determine it by the VIN. If the fiifth character in it is a T it's AWD is it's S it's FWD.

You're referring to 1Gs. Not the same. For 2Gs, the 5th digit of the VIN is "K" for FWD and "L" for AWD. 1000 AAQ - DSM factory specifications
