Is an injen short ram worth it?

I'm just not sure spending 200$ on a short ram is worth it? Supposedly they gain 12hp to your car and sound badass but will it really have much of a noticeable difference? Also, is the filter that comes with an injen good enough? Just hoping someone who has bought one will have some input, i really dont want to do the ebay knockoff route also.

You could possibly just hack the recirculation tube inside the OEM rubber intake pipe to increase your stock intake's inlet (hack the plastic pipe that goes almost down to the outlet, and trim it flush to the bov recirulation tube; it's in the free mod section in tech-upgrade path) and just buy a K&N filter. That'll save you money, not sure on what you have, profile doesn't say.

I have the injen... It's not a bad intake at all. It all depends on what your goals are down the road to. If your gonna keep it close to stock I'd leave it. If your gonna be upgrading the turbo to a 14b,16g, or 68hta Down the road I would get it. If your plans are for a bigger turbo go with either dejon or fp intake to compensate for the bigger turbo inlet.

The base reason to upgrade your intake tube on any vehicle is smoother air. The stock ribbed rubber that ours are made of causes turbulence in the air being taken in and by the time it reaches the turbo it's already choppy and inefficient. A solid, smoother intake promotes smoother airflow. Why do you think intercooler piping is sold, smooth, and it's never recommended to make sudden high degree turns in the piping? Air flow. You want to promote smooth efficient airflow as it promotes power. ;)

I've personally owned an Injen intake and besides helping clean up the engine bay and addressing the issue I outlined above - it doesn't do much. You won't start losing traction during shifts, or out-running SRT-10's. A home-made intake tube of polished aluminum will do the same job - but the cost effectiveness isn't there if you don't know what you're doing. At this point - an ebay intake would be fine. It's not like there's a mass amount of pressure or durability issues associated with it.

You really made me want to make a intake lubricant joke, but I think I'll hold off for now.

Anyway, just like the said the stock intake is fine fore now. You won't really notice any gain.

well do the ebay ones have the same tubes and and connectors on the intake like the stock one had?
I guess they do..
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
Is this the one?

Yep, thats the one. Has all the vacuum and recirc ports. You can use your old vac lines if you dont like the blue

Also if i do go this route, should i throw on a k&n filter?

Other then the k&n lasting longer, i dont see there being a noticeable difference.

Yes, the eBay one has all 3 nipples like the stock rubber one.
It will also come with garbage lines, throw that shit away and keep the stock rubber lines.
If you REALLY REALLY want, buy a K&N filter.
The cheapest I've seen a new K&N filter with adapter is go for around $50 on eBay.
That plus the intake pipe itself is roughly $110ish already.

Have you tried looking in the classifieds?
They tend to sell for $30.

P.S. It doesn't make any "cool" noises. Lol

The filter makes more of a difference than anything in terms of sound. I ran a K&N on the stock snorkel for a long time and it magnified the sounds of the turbo and bov greatly. Regardless, if you install both an open element filter and hard pipe, you will definitely notice a difference in sound.

It's worth it but for 200 bucks no... the only reason why i got it was because of smog reason's in cali. Won't feel much but you'll hear your turbo spin, air sucking, bov a little louder that's about it.

The ebay one will do just fine.

So im getting a feel that spending money on an air intake really wont do much except for asthetics.. if i do end up getting obe itll probably be ebay or classifieds, so thanks for the help guys. Appreciate it!

No, the intake pipe is definitely a worthy mod, especially consider the gain per dollar. The stock maf is a restriction on its own, so compounding that restriction with a junk filter and rubber snorkel, is significant. Especially since its all pre-turbo.

On STOCK TURBO I didn't realize any real difference besides hearing my turbo sucking air and the bov sound getting louder.

BUT, I guess it's mandatory once you raise boost levels and/or change your turbocharger to get more air.

Has anybody a 16G at 18psi or + used the stock snorkel ?

I run mine at 16-18 on stock tube.

Why not get a 2.25 45* bend and make the diy intake tube. Cheapest and just as effect til you get a turbo larger than 16g or so.

i have the injen one but i didnt buy it, it came with the car.

I have to say it is a quality product, and it dresses up the engine bay good, but obviously i would of not payed for the amount they ask for in the event i didnt have it to begin with.
