I searched and saw a 9 dollar plus shipping bov on ebay. the question is, is it better than stock or waste of money? go with a 1st gen? next im going to check for leaks and look into a fmic. should i slap a cheapo on it till i get money for a better one or stay stock till i buy a good one? figured youve all been through it before. and search didnt pull up anything this spicific..

Let me guess, knock off Greddy? In my experience with them stay stock until you can afford a reliable one that will hold boost. Seriously do you think if they were half as good they could be sold for 1/30th the price? It's always a gamble with ebay, either shit or gold... not too much in between.

95. bought it a week ago. looked bone stock ecept for the exaust, headlights and the nightmare in the radio area. I installed a boost guage and did the free mods. thinking about fabbing up something to get rid of the air filter box. had a rebuild 10,000 miles ago. im new in washington maybe ill look around for some close junk yards on the internet. I'm used to sbc chevy cars and trucks so this is a little out of my comfort zone. figured i'd save some gas. but the turbo's makin my foot heavy. :thumb:

The 1g sucks, i am currently using it as a borrowed bov that a friend lent me till i buy me my hks, the bov stays open sometimes at cruising speeds and idle when the vac reads around 17-18.
However it is a better bov than the stock 2g plastic pos.

Stay stock.. I wouldnt buy a bov off of ebay, you get what you pay for

You're right, my 50 buck HKS knockoff held 22psi daily for over a year on my car (most I ever ran was 25psi, but it still held strong) and is still holding on the car I sold the BOV to.

An another note, I would just find a 1g bov and adapter. Probably still cheaper than most knockoffs and after you do 1 of the numerous (and easy to do) "stop leak" methods on it, it will hold more boost than you'll probably run for quite some time.

My HKS knock off as well going on a year and a half of 26psi on my SRT4. Had a Greddy Type RS knock off which came with the car, leaked a little, got a Greddy Type S knock off just to hear how it sounds and it worked great at 24psi, no leaks and was machined very well. I love how people talk down Ebay BOV's when there is not much to them. Sure diaphragms can only get so cheap, but those can be replaced *IF* they ever have to.

Irony here, the dsm I picked up has a greddy type s knock off on it hahaha.

Good to 30psi with a crush/Dodge Mod for 30 bucks? Sucks?

;)

1g or the knock off HKS is you really need to change and have no cash. A few of my friends ran the HKS knock off and it never leaked and held boost quite nicely, you do get what you pay for (most of the time)

kinda a little bit off topic but still on the same subject, what is the best/cheapest way to do a 1g bov swap. i have a stock 1g bov and a blitz bov (both from my old 1g) and i have the little 8in peice of pipe that the bov mounts to but it is so much smaller that 2g piping.

You can get a 1G for that cheap. Although you probably wont get the mounting gasket.

Go with the 1g man. I do agree with some of these guys, knockoffs dont have to be crap. Its all in how the diaphragm is made.

You're not going to get a yes/no answer on cheap BOV's. Some people run knock-offs for years with absolutely no issues. My friend on here had two different knock-offs, Greddy and HKS style, and both made his car run horrible. But everyone has different experiences. Why not just go with the 1g BOV? People sell them on here for about $25 and it is a solid piece.

Yep sounds like 1g bov then, and yes i was born and raised in juneau, down in washington for flight school. so far its been just like juneau in the rain/cloud department i hear the winter and summer is going to be a big differance in coldness and sunshine. cant wate to see what port orchards going to be like.

I also use to live in Everett Washington in 1994 but Born in raised in Juneau still have family there it's just nice to see somebody from Juneau on here well nice talking to you & be safe & take care.

My buddy is down in Anchorage for his mission. If you see a short red head named mike. Smack him and say "that's for omar" :D

i have found that, like everyone has been saying, stay stock. but my reasoning is led by more than just cheap BOV's suck. even if you get a cheap one that works, great, but you may mess your car up.

getting your car to blowoff into the air isn't a good choice. it makes your car sound cool, but your computer is already compensating for the extra air being forced back into the system. therefore you lose performance when you vent the pressure out of the BOV. so if that's why you're going for an aftermarket one, you may reconsider. if you're going for more power, the BOV isn't the problem, its the fat wide plastic pipe that runs down by the radiator. they leak pressure some times.

unless you have altered your fuel system, running more than 16 lbs. of boost will damage your whole fuel setup. a lot of people get a car with a turbo and want to take it to the max... i do too, but at this time i can't afford to get bigger injectors, redoing the fuel rail, upgrading the fuel filter, etc... so i just stay stock.

the stock 2nd gen BOV can hold 16 lbs. of boost easy, as long as you get a boost controller and do a boost leak test.

im not worried about the sound. im planning on boosting 15 psi. sounds like i should skip the fmic ad go straight to boost controller? i figured i would change the bov to a cheepo or first gen. if i spend 200-300 on the fmic and parts im not likeing the thought of trying to adapt the plastic 2g to a greddy flange... plus... i kinda just want the damn thing out from under my hood. its been eyeballin me funny latley.

Not looking to mod or crush a bov that isn't mine to start off, and i just stated my own opinion/like/dislike about the bov sucking.
I in no way said it sucked at holding boost.
It is a good bov for what it's worth but i rather have something more proven without needing any modding done to it ever.
Yeah, i'm lazy...
