I searched and saw a 9 dollar plus shipping bov on ebay. the question is, is it better than stock or waste of money? go with a 1st gen? next im going to check for leaks and look into a fmic. should i slap a cheapo on it till i get money for a better one or stay stock till i buy a good one? figured youve all been through it before. and search didnt pull up anything this spicific..

It is proven and it is supposed to stay open at idle/cruising, it doesn't hurt anything unless you are venting your bov, my Forge bov does exactly the same thing and now that I'm running SD with an intake pipe without a bov return port I can say that it is a little bit annoying but almost no one else on these boards (99%) should ever have a similar problem because they should be recirculated.

With your post count I can't imagine how you believe that the 1g valve isn't proven.

Edit: I see your running a GM MAF, I can see how you might also not like it if you don't still have it recirculated anyways but that shouldn't be the point with the OP, on a stock MAF car there is no drawback to being open at idle/cruise and there is actually some gain to it since it acts as a D-valve and can bypass the large restriction of an unspooled turbo.

Sooo much discussion for such a simple thing ;)

If you just need a quick fix:
-ebay BOV
-1g BOV

If you just got a new UICP and haven't tracked down or saved up enough for a great BOV/adapter or don't intend to:
-ebay BOV
-1g BOV

If you want a greddy/HKS and your have a pipe already flanged and you've not yet saved up enough for a great BOV/adapter or don't intend to:
-ebay BOV

If you have a 1g flange and want to use a 1g valve:
-1g BOV

If you have the cash and you want the pimp shit:
-whatever you want BOV

The ebay BOV's are excellent. I've handled 3 of them and they were all great. They're cheap and effective.
We already know the 1g BOV kicks ass, is moddable and cheap. But be cautious when buying used. They're often for sale for a reason. It's a very durable valve, however, my last 4 1g BOVs all had terrible leaking past the valve stem. My car sounds like it's whistling whenever cruising at a certain vacuum. I hate it.

I'll be saving up for a NEW 1g valve.

Better in the sense that it will hold more boost, possibly....better in the sense that it will last for over 100k without requiring a diaphragm replacement, definitely NOT.

No matter how you look at it, a 1G BOV will still hold more boost, release quicker, and last longer than any $9 Chinese eBay knockoff you'll buy,

yeah, those evo bov's are great. my brother has one on his and said that it worked. i've got a buddy who still has his stock bov on his 97 and is pushing around 20 lbs. mine's leaking, and i'm pretty sure its not the bov... time for a leak test.

I strongly agree with you on this one.
Don't get me wrong i like how the 1g on my car sounds, almost greddy-like, but like mork said it annoys me that little whistle, nonetheless it is doing its job and holding boost well.
Back about a year and a half ago i had a 96 gst with the evo9 bov vented to try it out and see how the car behaved, man that car can vent all day long and will never even think about shutting off or dying, those evo bov's have a stiff ass spring.

Edit : Mork i didn't say it wasn't a proven bov, i mean to say i disliked the bov for the fact of the whistle during cruise and at idle sometimes and the fact of having to mod it to hold higher levels of boost, that's all.
But i do agree it is a good bov.

Oh yeah the Evo mr bovs are beast. I'd take one over any other bov.

Its either stock or 1g bov. Those fake ones leak worse then a good 2g bov, if still at stock boost.

A 1g bov would run you $25-30, then if you don't want to change out the plastic piping they sell the adapter flange for like $20 on ebay.

In my opinion, the 1g bov is overrated, yes it will hold a lot of boost, just like any other that has a very hard spring pressure put on it. Dont get me wrong its a great bov, especially for the price, its basically the BEST bov any dsmer can get, but how many 1g bovs are out there and how many are available? That makes it an option that is not viable for all dsmers. I would get the ebay bov, but just make it a SSQV, it wont leak plain and simple, that is unless you get a bov that is broken/damaged. In reality, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a ebay bov, about the only thing your paying for is the quality, meaning it WILL degrade faster than a "real" non-knockoff item(not sarcasm). Also, Punishment Racing sells a fake bov with their highly rated fmic kit. By the way, if you get a evo bov, be on lookout for MR or the 9 bov, the regular 8 is plastic and isnt as good as the superior metal MR/9 bov.

How are the Evo 8 BOV's, theyre plastic but are they still better than the 2g one especially for 10 bucks?

I got one of those cheap ones on ebay, shipping and handling was 2$ more than the bov LOL. My stock 2g bov only held 6 psi though, so regardless it was a major upgrade and held 15 psi no leaks for over a year. Throttle body's got a few leaks though, bov is a bov imo except the stock 2g plastic pos.
