IV HAD THIS CAR FOR AS LONG AS IVE BEEN A MEMBER HERE AND IVE BEEN BREAKING DOWN EVERY 2 WEEK SHOULD I GIVE UP?

1 CLUTCH WENT BAD
2 TURBO BLOW
3 MOTOR MOUNTS
4 BOV LEAKING
5 SHIFT CABLE BROKE
6 STARTER WENT
7 CLUTCH MASTER CYC
8 TODAY MY RPM GAUGE STARTED JUMPING AND THE CAR IS MISFIREING

WHAT SHOULD I DO IM TIRED OF THIS CAR ####ING WITH ME. :banghead:

what were the ages of these things going bad? If the age is up there than it's typicall maintenance that should have been done any way. If thats the case do a run down and do your maintenance as a preventative for future problems.

Haha, I've had my car for a year and I wish those were the only problems I've had.

If you don't have the desire/time/money to put into the car, sell it to someone who does.

yea its no just cause its a (DSM) i bet the owner before you got it, gave it bad maintenance... that should be answer for your question.... treat it good and ill make your day...!

Ha, ha you're only on #8. How do you think you will feel a couple thousand later over the year replacing what else will break. It will eventually become unevitable on a high milage, old car. Get a daily driver and use that one secondary, so you can fix it all the time or get a back-up ride.

i really don't want to give it up i think im just going to push it in the back yard and get a Toyota for work:(

i know its an old car but dam one thing after another ? and dose any one know what the prob my be? the rpm gauge is jumping all over and its misfireing

The bad part is when someone mistreats the vehicle, doesn't maintain it at all. They just know its fast and they drive it that way. Well than stuff starts to break and they say oh now it's time to sell. Than someone like you or me gets it. Fact is I had similiar issues. Clutch master went back, clutch slave, TOB, Fly wheel was damaged beyond repair, turbo replacement, oil leaks, coolant leaks, and water pump failures. After all that I sold that dam car as soon as I got it running well. Now I have another one that was taking care of and havent had any major problems yet. I say these are toys not typically used for DD's anymore. My 2 cents

The problem sounds like your CAS or check your spark plug wires make sure that they are in the right order!!! Dont ever give up because the day you do can be the same day you got it right. Failure is not an option..Yes it will take money but what dosnt. Just fix it, as a matter of fact buy everything new and make sure your getting the right voltage where power is needed. Im on my 5th DSM and even though i work on them too much i love the learning experience and when its runing its a beautiful thing.:thumb:

I got 2 frist gen cars and when i got them rebuilt the motor and just fixed what everybody else couldnt fix. I run the shit out of both my cars and I hardly ever have any issues. bset dam four cylinder I ever owned

....and a partridge in a pear tree.

J/K. Really though, older cars can get finicky, and temperamental. Mine is almost 18 years old, and I'm having to replace the some clutch pack or another (it an A/T) every 6-12 months along with the usual high mileage maint (i.e. belts, plugs, wires, tubes, lines, and fluids.) Most times it's just stuff that can happen over time, and needs to be fixed as it comes up. DSM's are great platforms, and despite their reputation as being maintenance intensive, they really aren't any worse off that any other 10-20 year old car.

Its all about how they are taken care of maintenance wise. I bought my 93 tsi with 175,000 on it from a kid that had it for 12 years and took really good care of it. I have since had it for 8 months and have run the shit out of that car with next to no problems(Speedo cable, Power steering belt, and one radiator hose). You can plan on little things like that they are going to happen with older cars. But honestly most of us this is our secondary project cars anyways. So it doesn't bother us to much.

My friend u r talking about a 12+ yr old car. I just put a new motor in well rebuilt one. Iv told myself to just sell it thousands of times but nope, next thing I know I'm buying a big brake kit for the dam thing. Like other said, its a toy, a hobby, a love. Def not a dd, but wow when things r good, they r great LOL. I love my gst. Good luck with whatever u decide!

As soon as i got my GSX, i did ALL maintenance one weekend. then clutch came un-sprung and i replaced that. other than the clutch, i havent had any real problems, except damn random boost leaks.

Mine's 21 years old (rolled out of the factory in June of 1989, thus making it one of the early DSM's to roll out of Normal, ILL), bought it in '08 with 161k miles on the chassis and it came with a recently installed JDM motor in it

Did the belts, ECU and regular maintence on it.

21k miles later, still runs like a top.

..all stock and can hit 32mpg with it on freeway travels.

Not bad for this old of a rig.

Dont get rid of the car. its just old and needs some love. the first 2 weeks I had my gs-t the hog ring holding axle together came apart. a week after that the part that holds the throw-out bearing in placed broke off and my clutch disk shattered. short story short $1900 later in parts a labor here I sit.

Just do the basic maint. and you will be golden its not a new car. but if you dont want it I will inherit the problems for you :)

LOL im glade i posted this i feel alot better. im mostly mad about the fact that i gave 4,000 for the car i never spent that kind of money on a car cash money that is. i got 4 cars ones a 95 accord and a 97 lude (turbo) and a 93 camry ive never had any issues with them . all the work done to them was modsWTF

Man consider yourself lucky, if you want to read a depressing project thread I'll post a link to my diesel truck project that has literally blown up 3 times since i first put it together and none of them were my problem. All were faulty machinist workmanship or faulty parts.
The first month I had my eclipse it blew the head gasket, and got hit twice in a parking garage at college. Since then I've tried to slowly upgrade it but I just keep having problems with it. Now I'm looking at possibly another head gasket going out or a front main seal leak, alternator is going bad, turbo kinda sounds like its getting some contact with the housings, not to mention I'm just babying it around because the timing belt is covered in oil.

I've had my GST since the second week of February. Since then I've had to do pads and rotors, tires, headgasket, BOV started leaking so I swapped in a 1g, cruisecontrol started sticking so it would idle at 2k-3k sometimes so that had to go, the stereo components needs some replacing, multiple oil changes just to clean out a year of neglect, and my power seat only moves forward and back, so its stuck tilted all the way back (its a killer on your back, honestly).

I know for a fact that the guy who I bought it from had no clue what was going on. He was an auto detailer and admitted to doing almost nothing to the car in the 1 yr/6k miles he had it. I've put about 5k on it myself, and at 145k I'm about to put a new clutch in this week ### its slipping worse then a 1st grader in high heels on a waxed floor.

Higher mileage cars need some lovin'. :thumb:

If you think you have it bad.

1 Master cylinder went out.
2 Motor mounts broke
3 CV axel broke
4 Clutch went out
5 Motor Mounts broke again
6 The SAME day i got the car back from the shop from getting the motor mounts replaced transmission went out.
7 Rear shocks blew
8 Complete front end rebuild, tie rods, balls joint ect were shot.
9 other CV axel replaced
10 Radiator clogged
11 Got sold a junk 16g and didnt find out till after install
12 Front shocks blew
13 Fuse box caught on fire
14 CAS sensor went out
15 Thermostat went out
16 Had 3 boost controllers go out on me
17 Timing belt tensioner went out.

If you give up, your a vagine. :toobad:

Na it's going to continue to give you shit like this ALL the time. Sooo go ahead and sell it to me for a nominal price. :) A 97 TSi is a hard find now days, and think of it this way, all the stuff you replaced is new now.
