IV HAD THIS CAR FOR AS LONG AS IVE BEEN A MEMBER HERE AND IVE BEEN BREAKING DOWN EVERY 2 WEEK SHOULD I GIVE UP?

1 CLUTCH WENT BAD
2 TURBO BLOW
3 MOTOR MOUNTS
4 BOV LEAKING
5 SHIFT CABLE BROKE
6 STARTER WENT
7 CLUTCH MASTER CYC
8 TODAY MY RPM GAUGE STARTED JUMPING AND THE CAR IS MISFIREING

WHAT SHOULD I DO IM TIRED OF THIS CAR ####ING WITH ME. :banghead:
 
I didnt read thru all the posts, but I just have to say..a DSM is not for everyone, you have to have patience and determination in order to own one. A lot of new dsm owners cant handle and thats how we get that bad 'rep' of breaking down so much.
 
DSMs are only reliable due to their previous owners, so when another person gets it and cannot fix it themselves, of course it gets worse.

Nowadays, post like these, I blame on the owner for not bringing a knowledgeable DSMer with them to check the car before they purchase it.

Because a good DSM is just usual maintenance.

Wait.. these type of things breaking on a DSM aren't normal? I must have missed the bulletin on that one ROFL

Agreed. The car is old, even for being a later produced 2G, it's still an old car. Undoubtedly it's been driven enthusiastically during it's lifetime, the above 8 issues listed can be placed the maintenance list.

Cheer up 97dsmtsi, we all go/went through it; the bright side is once you replace it (and do it right) you won't have to do it again :rocks:
 
haha, trust me bro, i feel your pain. i bought the car in july last year for 3500 bucks... in 6 months i paid 6000 in repairs... haha, but i still love driving the car. EVERYONE tells me to get rid of it and get something new with a warrenty... it's all about what you desire.

1 90 galant automatic 3 transmissions 1 head job and maintenance for4 years
2 90 galant gsx 2 engines 2 transmissions 3 differentials maintenance for3 years
3 92 galant vr4 2 engines maintenance for 5 years
4 95 talon awd 3 engines 2 transmissions 4 years maintenance
5 91 talon tsi 1 head job 1 transmission 2 years maintenance
6 92 talon awd 3 engines 2 transmissions 2 differentials 4 years maintenance
7 90 eclipse gsx 2 engines 1 trans and coldnt take it anymore so i gave this one away
8 92 talon auto awd this one i gave it to my bro needs engine trans n a lot of work
9 97 eclipse gst 1 transmission 1.5 year maintenance
10 95 eclipse gsx 2 engines 1 trans 2 years
11 90 galant gsx no problems with this one yet

after 30+ thousand dollars im still here
and im talking about the money i spend on upgrades, axles, alternators, starters ect. I think i had it pretty bad finally i got rid of all this cars and just kept two 95 eclipse gsx and 90 galant gsx. The eclipse is not a daily driver hell no not no more only the galant, good luck with your decision and i recommend you to keep it save some money i fix all the problems at once
 
As soon as i got my GSX, i did ALL maintenance one weekend. then clutch came un-sprung and i replaced that. other than the clutch, i havent had any real problems, except damn random boost leaks.

Ditto. I've had my TSi for two years with literally no problems. Do your MAINTENANCE and you'll be fine. Don't push 25 psi on a stock engine with no tune and stock injectors and so on and so forth. Drive it like a car not like you're running from the cops and you'll be fine.
 
the turbo is a tdo5h 20g knock off i had to get it cuzz the old turbo went out on me with no money and i need this car for work. i will sell it make an offer and u will have to pick it up:cry:
 
I'm getting tired of seeing these threads. Some people are meant to own DSMs/boosted cars... some people just aren't.

I sold one of my favorite 1g's to a friend of mine.. come to find out he had it CRUSHED because it started knocking.. he had his foot on the floor everywhere he went, ran 85 octane fuel, and didn't know how to do simple maintenance, like check coolant. When it blew he told me I sold him a turd car, and thanked me for f***ing him. Now he is just another idiot running around giving these cars a bad name and repping up Honda. I'm just tired of it... and sad another nice car got wasted.

and turst me im putting 600 in this car a mouth i dont think im neglecting this car
 
dude get a second car for a daily driver and work on the talon change all the bad parts for new ...and learn to fix it your self ....i was lucky to get my 92 Talon from a older person who kept maintenance regular ...but i still had to change out alot of the old parts from 92 ...but it is not my daily driver its my evening warrior and has never fail me yet ...but i do preventative maintenance so that i dont have issues when i cruise ...dont give up man dsm's are worth the extra effort... :D
 
I have had my share of repairs on my vehicle too. Look at it this way, these vehicles are not getting any younger mine is 14 years old has had 4-5 owners all hammering the snot out of it. Poor maintenance neglect or lack of mechanical ability also take their toll on them. Let's face it poor economic times don't help either.

There comes a time when a complete overhaul is needed. You can't drive them hard and expect them to be a daily driver, it's just not realistic! Some may want to consider making them a second vehicle while they try to infuse a second life into them. Nothing is worse then having to work all day then hope you can diagnose and fix your ride for the next day. I did this for many years it's no fun.

The best thing about this forum is that we can help each other keep our rides going for a good while longer.

Just my 2 cents.

My eclipse started life as a car for my daughter.The engine was so blown I deceided to rebuild it.The kid I got it from beat the living crap out of it. Had I known this I would not have gotten involved with it.Well to make a long story short I have done almost a total rebuild engine brakes steering suspention exhaust electrical system.My moto became "If in doubt throw it out". I was at the mitsu dealer so much they set up an account for me.Oddly enough the prices from them weren't to bad. I started to have transmission problems than the clutch went,Ebay crap(the two things I did not work on). So last week I took the engine and transmission out so I can work on it.My days of laying under a car are over (welcome middle age).I deceided to install a BSEK as well as a crank scrapper and port the oil pump housing.The list get longer In the end the car became my toy.My daughter end up with a nissan pathfinder.I've driven over five thousand miles in about five months.Remember old cars need work.

I think someones exaggerating a little bit (or a lot). I find it very hard to believe you've replaced 14 motors and 13 transmissions. And if this is true I'd say you're definitely doing something wrong.
 
You know you've put more in your turbo "lude". You KNOW it wouldn't run right unless you did everything right the first time. Give the dsm the same respect with your bank account then you will have a quicker car than your "lude". . .

For example, lets go down the list:

1 CLUTCH WENT BAD your "lude" would need a new clutch if it had 1/2 the traction of your dsm
2 TURBO BLOW you bought a knock off. If you want them to work then don't push one by running them on hondas
3 MOTOR MOUNTS more torque and response from the factory does that
4 BOV LEAKING new "BOV"s with turbo "lude" kits don't leak. . . There are knock off hks BOVs. . . do you have one? After all, you have a knock off 20g. You may not know you have one bacause chinabay is getting very cunning now-a-days
5 SHIFT CABLE BROKE chit happens
6 STARTER WENT starters go on "ludes" all the time
7 CLUTCH MASTER CYC master cylinders go on "ludes" all the time
8 TODAY MY RPM GAUGE STARTED JUMPING AND THE CAR IS MISFIREING . . . . . . . :banghead:get a logger and figure it out. hopefully you're not running your turbo "lude" without at least HULOG


This thread is getting almost as bad as the guy parting out his 6bolt 1g because he kept cranking the motor over after it jumped timing. 'buddy said none of the belts were moving not just the timing belt' :rolleyes: . Parting it out to build a honda. Just so that he can spend 2k in motor components to tolerate what a 6bolt can from the factory (600whp) and actually see over 300whp and another 3k in parts to give it bearly enough traction to keep up though it weighs 1000lbs less. :ohdamn:

BTW, you have said several times on here that your dsm keeps 'blowing up'. NONE of the above is blowing up. You also raved about your ebay turbo for a while. Told ya ;) . . . Put on a SPA turbo you paid $900 for and oil it properly and at least one of the issues would have gone away. You have one that would come from an accord that as you said your self 'isn't holding' with it on. Apparently, cars break when they are turbocharged.
 
wow some people have horrible issues. mine is a 97 with 137k on it and only problem iv had was my fuel pump went out so far no other issues my car was bone stock when i got it and carfax made me the 3rd owner and was never wrecked so i think i got a good idea the car was taken care of

i know its an old car but dam one thing after another ? and dose any one know what the prob my be? the rpm gauge is jumping all over and its misfireing

You more than likely have a bad CAS or the plug is coming and or came unplugged somehow....Mine did the exact same thing and somehow the plug for the CAS had worked its way loose. Just like everyone else has stated perform all of your genral maintenance before you start modding the car and you'll be fine. 99% of the DSM's that are sold have had the shit ran out of them and people dont bother with general maintenance, I guess they think the car is an alien spacecraft that doesnt require any.

yep maintenance for dsm is rebuild the car top to bottom ROFL

the turbo that blow on me was the t25 i guess it couldn't handle 15psi thats why i had to put a chinabang on there for now and im talking about the 97 eagle talon fwd tsi. not my hondas. but i will say your right i did have to spend alot on the lude i did go all out bc i think it worth it
