2 TURBO BLOW
3 MOTOR MOUNTS
4 BOV LEAKING
5 SHIFT CABLE BROKE
6 STARTER WENT
7 CLUTCH MASTER CYC
8 TODAY MY RPM GAUGE STARTED JUMPING AND THE CAR IS MISFIREING

WHAT SHOULD I DO IM TIRED OF THIS CAR ####ING WITH ME. :banghead:

i really don't want to give it up i think im just going to push it in the back yard and get a Toyota for work:(

And you are worries about your DSM being cursed......ROFL

When I got my Talon, I bought it with a blown engine. $3,000 later, I had a brand new engine rebuilt by myself. Less than 1,000 miles later, spun a rod bearing. Another $500 later, car is 12K strong and just recently my alternator went out on me, I have a HUGE BL at my throttle body shaft seals, and I have an AWESOME oil leak.

As stated before, Owning a DSM feels like this >>>>:beatentodeath: But once you get all those kinks worked out and the car running right and strong, and you put your foot into that peddle, hearing and feeling the turbo pull strong... There's really not much that beats the satisfaction of knowing you are the one who built the car to run that way and make such a smile on your face.

Stick with her buddy!!

Didn't anyone tell you DSM means Driver Slash Mechanic. LOL, just spend some money and get everything fixed slowly don't rush and you will be very happy. I use my altima or maxima as my daily driver and my Talon as my fun car. Good Luck

I dunno, I think it comes down to how the prior owner treated the car.

A friend of mine has been chasing problems all through his A/C, and bits and pieces here. A mistake here, a goof up there. Over all, he has been chasing the prior owner's screw ups.

Myself, however, have common wear items failing on me. :/

I agree with everyone that this is DSM 101, its not the cars fault its the owners fault from doing improper maintenance or beating on it (or both). From the first day I bought my GS-T (February 24 2006) I started a binder to put every receipt I ever got from purchasing something for my DSM, whether it be basic maintenance or performance stuff (even craigslist parts). Don't make me take a picture of it! My DSM has forced me to become a mechanic because I couldn't afford to fix it just by taking it to a shop, and for that reason alone I love my DSM. I can comfortably jump in my 13yr old DSM and with a basic set of tools, electrical tape, and a bucket of zip ties drive cross country without breaking a sweat because I know I can fix it once it breaks.

The plus side of all this for me is that my girlfriend knows how unreliable my car is so she drives everywhere... WOOT. LOL Its your life so do what you want with your DSM, if it comes down to it selling it might be the best thing for you to do? Or you can keep your nose to the grindstone and fight back, make that car a reliable DD or a track monster...

I bought a 92 GS for $300 off eBay. Owner said it had a smoked tranny, no battery, needed to be trailered. It had not started for a year. I showed up with a battery. Gave him the $300 (it has a 6-bolt), installed the battery. It fired right up with no smoke. I put it in drive and drove away (only OD was bad). I drove it for 7 months, every day, only had to replace the alternator.

I then installed the N/T engine into my $200 TSi AWD with a blown motor, hooked up all the turbo stuff, fired her up and have been driving ever since (almost a year ago). Only issue is that the left rear caliper doesn't work, the stop switch went out, and the drive-shaft is shot (along with the used one I bought). The motor has 150k on it, the chassis has 174k. I have taken it on several 500 mile round trippers, and will be driving it to Norwalk this August.

These are no more unreliable than any other vehicle, you just have to follow the maintenance that is recommended. Unfortunately, the turbo models have been run hard, most of the time, so they will need maintenance. But, since they are not new, any car over 10 will need plenty of maintenance.

Sucks to hear about the breakdowns, but these cars need to be checked frequently. A lot of people don't do the reasearch before buying a dsm and end up getting screwed. Mo power mo problems. Don't give up, once you fix your ride you will not only have an awsome car but know that you won't have the same problems again.. LoL good luck

i know its an old car but dam one thing after another ? and dose any one know what the prob my be? the rpm gauge is jumping all over and its misfireing
i have a friend that owns a 91 bmw and it runs great and has no problems, one week he had, an oil leak, a ground wire not hooked up causing issues, a bad clutch fan. bad distributer, etc. He fixed it all and diagnosed it all as it came. It was like problems for 2 weeks straight, one after another. when cars get old things break.

+1!!!!

thank you! a dsm is and can be a very reliable car, if ALL the maintenance is done on the car there is no reason it shouldnt be.

every single time a friend of mine has been like " im getting a talon/eclipse/laser " i instantly offer to tag along cause 90% of the time the car is a piece because the previous owner knows absolutely nothing about the car or how to take car of it.

and trust me the list you gave us is very very minimal, i wish my dsm was like that it would make my life simple LOL

Dude your "problems" aren't all that bad. I just bought a 96 GS and not even a week later my motor blew. The guy before me that had it beat the crap out of it. But i always look at the bright side of things. My motor blew which means that's a excuse to put in a new short block w/ remaned crankshaft eagle rods and je pistons :D:hellyeah: (i'm going turbo in a few months) Like EVERYONE else is saying do the MAINTENANCE and you should be fine.

Take care of your car and it will take care of you.

I don't understand why everyone is saying these aren't daily drivers... I drive mine all day long, and the only problems I have are random boost leaks and the coolant temp getting a little too hot if I get on the boost for a mile straight. I keep up on my maintenance and treat my car better than my wife... Hahaha. Just kidding, but I do keep my car happy, and it keeps me happy.

you know theres a lot of dicks that come on here and post and talk shit but i must say i like everyone on page 4. yes ive been thinking about it for a week or to but i think im going to keep her.please is u don't have a + commit don't post thanks. and a special thank to everyone on page 4..:rocks:

Haa i like that! I recently purchased my 5th dsm after going through all the give up phases and im happy to say i daily drive my car and drive it all day BUT im always under the hood doing preventative maintenance. When i got the car every thing has half ass and falling apart, so basicly im just fixing every thing that should have been fixed! Any boosted car can and will run bad and brake down often if neglected. I feel that with a car that makes power you have to catch the problem before it catches you on a long dark road in the middle of now where  ...

Heh, I bought mine from Wisconsin. It's a rust bucket. Any maintenance of replacing things becomes a hassle. I replaced my whole spindle and connected suspension on the driver's side just for a cv boot ripped. There's a truckload more stories like that for this bucket o' rust. It's a good feeling though when I drive to Texas and I'm passing all the broke down cars on the side of the road!
